Hi all,

First post to this great site - thanks for all the great information.

Looking to purchase my first tractor for the following:
- Cutting down that part of 3 acres of grass/pasture (i.e. not lawn) that our horse doesn't eat - probably only once per month
- Periodic moving around of materials (bark mulch, soil, gravel)

I am therefore looking for a tractor with a FEL and a 4' rear cutter and was looking at a BX2350 but the dealer suggested I also consider the B7510. His reasoning was that although it is slightly less HP it has greater 'raw' power (torque?) as it has a greater displacement engine and also greater ground clearance.

Price wise it would probably cost me about CAD$2,000 more than the BX. The other option would be the B7610 at around $3,000 more than the BX.

Has anyone else been through this same consideration or have any views on the advantages/disadvantages of the BX versus either of the two Bs?

Incidentally, the dealer also said that if I did still favor the BX that he still had a BX2230 that he could let me have for around $1,000 less than a BX2350 as it was 'last years model'.

Are the significant differences between the 2230 and the 2350 or just cosmetic?

Thanks again to everyone that has boosted my knowledge of tractors from 0/10 to 5/10 very rapidly.

Buy the B series, it's a lot more tractor for a little more money! I think that bx series have limited 3 pt hitch, the 75 & 76 have a standard cat. 1 3 pt. I had a b7500 for years, it's a great machine!

If you filled in your profile a little more it may help people answer this question better. Will you use the tractor for other things such as snow removal?

The BX as you can see has less ground clearance. For that matter you need to ask if the ground is flat or will moving this tractor be over rough land. The B series is Bigger and won't allow you to manuver in tight spots so easily.

I have the BX but could have easily gotten the B if I knew better at the time. But I'm still happy with the BX. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The 2230 has older ergonomics. The fad now in tractors is to have sloped fronts allowing you better vision in the front. The engine I think is the same and is (well) newer. The warranty is the same so getting an older model won't matter there. The FEL lift I think is better.

Get a spec sheet out on them both and compare side by side. You'll see easier that way.

Just know that the tractor you buy is the best available because of course it's a Bota!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

From personal experience I can tell you that I have had my BX 2200 which is the older version of the Bx2230 and that it has been a tremendous "workhorse" for me. I have used the loader for excavating, moving heavy objects, snow removal, etc. The deisel engine has tremendous torque and uses little fuel. The midmount mower does a tremendous job cutting grass and could be used to mow pasture if need be unless you decide to get a bushhog....also very precise manuverability...a tremendous machine in a compact package!!!....Good luck!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hi,about a year ago I was doing the same thing.I ended up with a BX2230 and I love it.Let me say that if money is not an issue the B7510 or 7610 are great. But if money is a thought than look hard at that leftover BX2230. With my BX I mow 2 acre's of lawn,Snow plow and maintain 800ft of driveway, keep a 6 acre feild in check, remove many small brush, stumps and whatever comes down in 5 acres of woods.I have a loader for it,snowplow,4ft landpride rotary cutter works great, just use the lower lift pin hole's,60" mid mount mower which will cut 18" high grass in feild to 5" in 1 pass.I think it will do all you want and more. The higher rear wheels on the 7510 and 7610 will ride better in rougher feilds.Well that's my 3 cents worth,Good luck and whichever you chose your going to wish you would have bought it years ago. I too am wanting a bx2230. I've found one with an unused 60" deck, 80 hrs. on the meter, remainder of factory warranty, FEL and 60" blade.

Website says it has a class 1 3 pt. , My worry is that the 3 pt won't be up for some of the equipment I could attach. I think the size and hp is perfect for my 3/4 acre, lot that has slopes, but is need of alot of smoothing out due to a new circle drive and 500 tons of dirt that I've brought in to level the back out.

Is the 3 pt, a standard 3 pt? Will it run a post hole digger okay, or is it too low. I'm afraid that if I go much biggger, it will be oversized for my application.. Mainly mowing my lot.

Please, any other feedback?? Mainly want to plow 7000sq ft of driveway, and mow 3/4 acre, but have an FEL to help with the grading and skulpting of my lot over the years.

Thanks!

The 3PH on a BX is a std Cat1 hitch but due to the short rear wheels, it will not lift large Cat1 implements high enough for transport. There are some large Cat1 implements that have their pins set too wide for the BX Cat1 3PH also. In most cases large Cat1 implements won't work on a BX (Scut) sized tractor.

There are many implement manufacturers now that make Cat1 implements for Scuts and they can be found at most all tractor parts/supply outlets. They include rotary cutters, tillers, PHD's, blades, finish mowers, cultivators, box blades etc....

Generally, if finish mowing is the primary duty then a Scut is the best fit.
If using ground contact implements is the primary duty then a Cut would be the best fit.

Of course theres always exceptions to every rule /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good luck

I tossed this exact same issue around about a year ago and due to the nature of the work which needed to be done around my new construction home I decided to go with the B7610 and I am really glad that I did. The torque is amazing in comparison to a BX and I really like the idea that the engine only runs at 2600 although I think with the new model BX's they have also changed that as well.

I witnessed first hand the difference between the two machines last week when helping my neighbor cut a garden out of his sloped lot. We originally put my box blade on his BX and were struggly to get it to do anything. Granted he has turf tires and I have R4's but the torque that the hydro puts out seems to be quite different. We then put the box blade back on my 7610 and went to work.

As far as mowing goes, I have the 60" belly mower under my 7610 and it works great mowing my 1.5 acres. The R4's do not seem to hurt the turf either as long as you are relatively careful. You do not want to go full bore into a full lock turn, that would be bad! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The other thing I like about the B over the BX is the loader lift capacity, quite a difference here as well. I have moved 14 18-wheeler loads of dirt thus far on my new lot and the B7610 just keeps on going! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

All in all they are both excellent tractors although I am really glad that I went with the B7610 over the BX. Just wish I had my neighbors hoe on mine!

Good Luck.

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to give me the benefit of their experience - it is very much appreciated.

I think it reconfirms my 'gut feel' (but because of my inexperience I was not sure about) that I should probably go for the B7510/B7610 if I can but, if not, that the BX2350 is still a terrific machine.

Cheers,
Graham

Graham I just got off the phone with my dealer. His quote for a BX 2350 was $14500 Canadian with a loader and $1000 for a 48" woods rough cut mower. Just wondering how the Manitoba price compares to the B C price.
