Most states have reciprocal agreements on the sales tax. A non-issue for dealers of trucks, cars, boats, or tractors when located near state lines.
I'm sure each dealer does there own thing, but mine came with the brush guard because of the loader. And I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for anything when bargaining. I'd rather here them say no a couple times than leave money on the table. And as far as sales tax, I Bought a motorcycle out of state a couple times and he always had me sign an affidavit saying ill pay taxes in my home state.
Cars, trucks, motorcycles and boats have titles and annual registration for mostly tax purposes and a visible proof of annual update. Plates on cars, trucks, motorcycle and attached registration number on a boat. Not so on tractors. Ky has no reciprocal agreement on tractors like cars, trucks, motorcycles and boats, which they do, and I doubt hardly any other state does on tractors. Buy a tractor
almost I say almost but almost sure it's in every instance but got to cover on this forum in case there is that rare instance, sort of like never, anywhere.
Tractors move from state to state and if no one informs a taxing entity on purpose there is no method for gvmnt tracking except by "recorded" liens and that is "usually" done by a dealer when financed at purchase date.
Dealers "usually" don't report sales going to other states if the buyer signs a statement that they are going to another state.
Also in Ky there is no state sales tax if the Ky customer signs a statement that the tractor is being used for a certain percentage number which I can't remember since I've never done it, for agricultural purposes income producing purposes. BP uses his tractors for a commercial garden and sales the crop, I think/understand/have been led to believe, and would NOT have to pay Ky sales tax on his purchase if he lived in Ky and bought in Ky if he would sign the statement that the tractor is used "mostly/percentage #" for income producing agricultural purposes.
This tax savings across state lines is one reason many people buy from out of state because it's a substantial savings of dollars. No, I'm not one of them. I buy from Barlows who charges me Ky state sales tax every time because I won't lie and sign a statement relieving him of the responsibility of collecting the state sales tax and sending it to the Ky Dept of Revenue.
If a tractor is financed with Kubota then the dealer sends a lien recording to the state to cover Kubota credit. If that state gvmnt has a person or policy in place that Dept of Revenue gets copies or sends someone over every so often is probable, in state but not out of state (mostly).
