BX24 - 54" deck - mulch kit install (pics)

Thought I would post this for anyone thinking about getting this. Picked up the kit at the dealer yesterday. Apparently this is the first one he's sold for the 54" deck with the new design. I didn't know it at the time I bought my tractor but apparently this deck was new for 2006.

There isn't much to the kit, just a baffle, new blades, and some washers and nuts.

The first pic shows the baffle from the kit in front of the deck. The second shows the standard blade on top, and the new blade on the bottom. The third has the baffle installed, and the fourth shows the plugged discharge.

Overall I'm pretty impressed with the baffle design, I was expecting a box full of metal baffles and a small nightmare, but the one piece ABS plastic design is really sweet, and it fits like a glove. The deck is pre drilled for the baffle, you simply remove 2 bolts that act as hole fillers and it slips right in. Install the new blades, remove the discharge cover, and it's done in under 30 minutes.

I'll know tomorrow how well it works, but I expect good performance as it's been dry this week. 2 thumbs up to Kubota for a smart design, hopefully it functions as good.

Keep the list informed since I'm about to install the mulch blades on my 60" without the mulch kit. The kit will come later 'maybe' but I'd love to hear a full report from you.

They've really changed the mulch kit from the BX2200. Mine just has a baffle that fits under the front edge of the deck a few inches. There is no other deflector, but there is a cover over the dishcharge chute.

I haven't used mine alot, but I found it does about the same as with it removed and a homemade plug in it.

I always thought the mulch kit was metal and not a chunk of plastic. You would think the cost would be bit better.

Yeah no kidding, it's not cheap. They pulled mine in from a dealer in NY since I would have had to wait until August to get one from Kubota, and I had to pay the freight to get it as well.

Here is a photo after mowing today. It doesn't do that bad of a job all things considered. I did have to shorten the blades a hair on my grinder, as they seems to kiss each other the first time I fired up the deck. I gotta say for spending $150 plus I would expect to NOT have to do that.

All in all I will probably keep the mulching kit on as it does do a nice job even if you need an extra pass or two.
