I don't know how long the two BX24s that are on the lot have been there, and no one is talking. :( The head salesperson told me it's only been there "about a month". Uh, OK. So you got two BX24s delivered about the middle of December. In central New York. It must be true.

So they really must have been there since sometime when the grass was still green and leaves were on the trees, right?

So is there any reason to be leary of buying something that has been rained and snowed on for the past 6 months?

Once upon a time, No. Tractors were built to be outdoors. When I got my L2800, it stayed outside uncovered for a couple years and I believe that is why my PTO has a problem turning off. The more "bells and whistles” a tractor gets... I think, the less they should be left outside. My 2 cents...

There are people that worry about this kind of stuff... then there are people like me, that wouldn't care.

JWK1,

I've been looking at BX24's also. Just about all the dealers tractor inventorys I have been interested in comes from a snowbank in the field somewhere. I don't believe they suffer any significant damage as a result. Our snow seems to come to stay this time of year because it's cold and the snow is powdery and light so it's dryer I suppose. I would also say if we were to keep score rain would be a larger detriment over time. I guess that means we better buy oneof these things and give it a good home inside somewhere.

The Kubota dealer I was at today had BX's both outside, and still in the crate wrapped in plastic. The new BX's seem to be more affected by UV rays than the paint on the old metal ones, so it wouldn't hurt to ask for one in the crate....

Our local Kubota dealer builds their inventory starting in December. I suggest this is more of an issue of floor plan and delivery schedule from Kubota. Local dealer has about 2 million in inventory sitting out side. Hey it is a tractor, after you get past the first 30 days waxing the hood and washing the dust off, you will start beating the tar out of it like most of us do.:D

If the tractor is brand new, the warranty doesn't start until it is bought, therefore, you would have three years to find any problems that the it would have developed by sitting in the elements for a few months. As far as the finish, get a good coat of wax on it after letting it dry out. I think you would be fine. You may even be able to work out a deal with this dealership for letting it sit out so long.
Best of luck,
Pat
