BX24 cover

I just bought this 12 x 20 foot "garage in a box" from TSC. My first job with the new tractor was to clear a level spot on a slight slope to set it up. Winter is coming on fast here, and I've got to do something.

Cost was $350. With the BX25 parked in the middle it should give me about 3 foot clearance all around. Not a whole lot, really, but it's got a door kit to close up the front, and I hope I can put some lights and heat in there and service it this winter until I can put up a proper garage next year.

I put up something like this 2 years ago and it's still standing. I buried four 4x4's 3 feet in each corner and connected them on all ends but the door end with 2x4's. Then I bolted the poles to the 2x4's. It's raised up from the ground high enough that I don't have to fold the ROPS to pull it in. It's held up through 50 mph winds up here on the mountain for over 2 1/2 years too. I did however have to duct tape a hole left by a small branch that fell out of a nearby tree. I think of it as a battle scar;).

I am actually a fan of these Garage-in-a-Box things now that mine has made it over a year. A hint, if there is a BJ's Wholesale club in your area they sell the ShelterLogic, but they have an exclusive one that's 12x24 that sold for $369 last year.

I made it the whole year through some high winds with just the four anchors that came with it. They are considered "temporary" and you are supposed to purchase their "permanent" set of anchors, longer ones, for each post. Also, a member here posted a nice "How-To" video on how to make it sturdier. He dropped four 4x4 posts on the inside and bolted the steel poles to them. Mine sits at the base of a steep hill, so I believe that is why it has survived the many high winds. No rips, tears, or wear/damage at all

Also, they want like $40 for the door kit - basically string and pulleys. I went to the HW store and rigged my own for under $8

Anyway, I had the same dilemma last year but now consider it well worth the $370 - especially since I haven't gotten as far on my toy barn project as I'd hoped. I dreaded the tarp idea because they are such a hassle once water/ice/snow is involved.

Just some thoughts.....

When ice and snow build up on the canopy I just go inside and push up on the ceiling with a push broom gently. The snow and ice just fall off to the sides.

I took a quick measurement on my BX and the length from front of FEL to ROPS is about 8 feet. I guess I'll go with a cover for a pickup with an 8 foot bed. If it doesn't work out, I'll at least have a cover for my truck:rolleyes:

After a lot of experimenting and with the BXpanded dolly making it possible to move the BH after removal, I managed to get two cars, the Harley, the BX24 with FEL attached, BH on the dolly, MMM upright on axles and other misc "stuff" all into my 2 car garage for the winter. I'll have to move both cars to get the BX24 out for any FEL work to clean up after the guy that plows for me but no need to buy a shed or put up a temporary cover / garage. Looks like a blade or blower is going to have to wait until next year's budget so this should suffice for this year.

Hint: forget drawing it out on paper, just get in there and move stuff around in various configurations to see if it fits. Paper is good if you're deciding what to build but is slower than experimenting when it comes to something already built.

Thanks very much, asylum575. Hope I can help you with something sometime. I think you should post a link to this sale in a new thread, as I think a lot of guys here would be interested.

I got one of the Shelter Logic kits last spring and finally got it put up this fall. Had to level a pad for it (fill mostly, as the area is totally rock!) and put down ~4-6" of base rock. I'm real happy with the construction. Nice beefy 2" main tubes and the cover tensions real tight with ratchet tie-downs. I got mine with a vent kit and two roll-up door kits for the $449 price. So far, no problems even through one good Pacific storm with pretty strong winds, but the real winter test is still to come.

I can leave the backhoe off the tractor in the back and still park the tractor with the box blade in front of the backhoe and get the door closed. I've also got room next to the tractor/backhoe to store my splitter, box blade, landscape rake, and grapple on dollys. The only thing that stays in my garage is my chipper (because I want it's dolly on concrete and not the base rock/plywood that's in the shelter.

I'm with mpowrd - for less than $300 bucks, you can't beat it. And if you anchor it right, it should hold up just fine. I just laid a large tarp, folded double, for the floor. Gets a little "crinkled" but not bad. Decent if I have to get on the ground under stuff. Have the BX with MMM, a 42" lawn tractor with bagger, dump cart, rear blade, small chipper/shreader, chain harrow and couple of pallets of lime and fertilizer.

I usually don't cheerlead for many products, but I have to say the value from these things is well worth it
