BX24 FEL control stick

My FEL control stick locks 1/2 way when you push it forward or when lowering the bucket. I bought this machine used in july (an 07 with 45hrs). I don't know if I never pushed it hard enough to get past this sticking point or if this is something that has recently developed. Either way if you don't pull it back down past the sticking point it'll continue to push down. Is this a problem with mine or do all units do this?

I think you have found the "float" detent. When the stick is held forward, the bucket can float up and down to follow the ground.

From your description, it sounds like you are pushing the lever so that the "float" detent is enabled. Most loader valves have this. What it does is take any pressure, up or down, off the loader. It will "float" with the contour of the ground.

On my BX2350 it also has a second detent to the right, which is the dump mode with a loader on. The owners manual explains what its for. It doesn't really have a function with a loader on but it does with other implements on.

The right detent is a "quick dump" for the FEL.

Thanks for all the info guys. I must have missed this the last time I read through the manual but I'll be sure to go back and read this section again. I'll be curious to see if it does the same to the right.

It won't stay to the right, and it won't float like the down position will.

The float position is what you want to use when back dragging (or pushing) the FEL to level off some material. Works very well.
