Well Fellas, After window shopping for the last year I finally pulled the trigger today on a new BX24 with a 60" mmm. You guys have definitely helped me get to this point. I was actually ready to get a B7610 with a loader and rear blade but reconsidered to the BX. I won't see it till mid week so like many of you all I may have a couple sleepless nights. They are going to put hooks on the loader but with the ridge across the top it makes more sense to put 3 across the top inside. Any experience or suggestions with this model bucket and hooks. Are they a good idea at all?

Thanks for all the help, even though you guys didn't know you were giving it to me.

I've had my 24 a few days and today I raked and loaded for 5 hrs and used 1/3 tank. I to considered the 7500 series, but glad I went with the baby bota. The 60" mower does an excellent and covers a lot of ground. Ordered mine with a rake also. I an very happy so far. BTW the backhoe comes off just as the manual suggests. Allow about 20 min the first time. Connecting the 3pt hitch was also about a 20 min job. I've heard others say a lot of implements will not work, but my cat 1 rake hitched up fine after spreading the bars with the turnbuckles. Good luck and sweet orange dreams...Mike...

I 've had my BX24 for a couple of weeks now and love it so far. I have 15 hrs on it already. I had a single hook mounted to the top center of the FL. The dealer welded a 48" piece of channel across the top and then mounted the hook. They even painted it all up. Looks very strong and looks great. I heard mounting the hooks on the corners of the FL on a small tractor like a BX was not a good idea because so many folks tip or roll these small tractors while using them.

Enjoy your BX when you get it.

I can't imagine wanting my hooks on the inside. The reason is that with them on the top, the chain hooks in them then hangs down over the lip of the bucket, which keeps the chain in the hooks. My guess is that if the hooks were on the inside of the bucket, the chain would fall out while you were trying to hook it to/around something.

Like another poster in this thread mentioned, welding a piece of angle/channel across the top lip of the bucket may be the best solution. For two reasons. The most important of which is that it makes the top lip VERY strong. If you would have a center hook without a strong upper lip, you may bend the upper lip when you try to pick something up with the center hook. (second reason is chain may not stay in the hooks). A third reason is that it provides a good surface to weld your hooks to.

Also, don't forget to get a toothbar... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The bh is easier than the front loader to put on and take off. Take a look at my album, I think there are some photos of the links in there that replace the chains. Get Pats system to make hook up much easier for the 3pt.

enjoy

You are Right Henro. The more I thought about it the more putting them inside the bucket is not a smart plan. I looked at some threads pertaining to this subject but I don't think there was a lot that pertained to the BX24 bucket. One photo I saw had 3 on top toward the back which looked ok. I don't think my dealer will want to add channel across the top so maybe I should tell him not to worry and do it myself. If anyone has a picture of hooks on the LA240 FEL I'd appreciate it.

BTW, I am just norhth of PGH also.

Mike,
Getting ready to purchase a rake for my BX. Not sure on what Im going to get yet....the xb series designed for the bx, or a full size rake? Looking at a 5' rake. I like the added weight of the full size rake. What type of rake did you get?

A & B out of Sweetwater, TN. 5' rake with close tines. Works grant, using it to clean up hurricane katrina debris. I was worried the bx24 would have a hard time with a 5' rake, but pulls it like a champ...Mike

here is a photo of the hooks I put on my BX23, the angle welded across the top not only adds rigidity but it gives the hooks more height which makes them easier to use and it is easier mounting them

I use the center hook alone 99.99% of the time but I guess the other two are good to have, note the angle of the outside hooks

I also welded one on the BH bucket, this has been extremely handy
