I brought my BX24 in to the shop after going to replace the transmission oil and noticing leakage all around the tranny and on top of my skid plate.
(Never saw the leakage because of the skid plate)

They haven't started working on it yet but says to becoming from the oil seal behind the HST cooling fan - the area I bought the skid plate for to protect
The mechanic said in all his years, he has never seen one of these fail with so little hours, 397hrs., figures.

Haven't heard of this either. I have almost 500 hours on mine, nothing like that (knock wood.)

I'm not sure the skid plate would stop a seal failure. Did they say it looked like there was some type of blunt force impact that caused the problem?

I put the skid plate there to protect the HST fan from getting broken. I'm going to call today to find out what is causing the leaking. Can't be damage. It (stick, branch) would have to trough the fan first.
Very expensive seal (labor) if it is leaking from there.

Mechanic says the HST shaft is actually worn. Mechanic says he hates to say it, but it looks like a defect. First time ever that he's seen this.

Needless to say, need new $haft, bearing$ and oil $eal and about 10 hour$ labor. I wonder if they make a steel HST fan I could put on while it's down so I don't have to go back for that someday?

Although I've read about sticks getting past the Bro-tek shields, I think it's unlikely. Have you got both front and back shields? I really felt the rear alone was a waste of time. Front and back give you full coverage. I did a lot of reading and thinking about this after my fan got ate. If I somehow lost my current fan, I'd definitely consider some of the alternatives presented on this forum.
