BX24 PTO Chipper question?

   / BX24 PTO Chipper question? #2
The BX24 seems to run most 4" chippers just fine if the weight, and balance are within BX specs. I wouldn't hesitate to put a BX42 Wallenstein chipper on one for example though I am not familiar with the chipper you are looking at.

I run a Patu DC 40 chipper on my BX24. The tractor handles it fine just need to run at close to full throtle to get the 540 RPM at the pto.

What size is the gravely chipper? I use a Wallenstein BX-42. It is rated at 4" but really takes aroung 5". 5" will stall the tractor if the length is more than 4' or so. Under 4" it won't slow down much. The BX is rated at 17.7 pto hp. I would not try to run anything bigger than a 4.5" capacity chipper. Also remember that you should not exceed 680# on the 3 pt hitch.
Let us know how you make out.

I run a 4 inch on my 23.You can stall the tractor if you put a 4 inch stick in thats very long 4 ft or longer[besides i cut my wood down to about 2 inch].Other then that brush doesnt phase it.
That being said id rather have a 6 inch if i thought the 23 could get it turning. You wouldnt have to cut all the crotches up in your brush so fine, and of course wouldnt be chipping big stuff, knowing i couldnt power it.My little SALSCO does a great job,but i have to do a good job with the chain saw ,when im limbing up my firewood.

I have a 5" chipper that I use on my B7510 and have been happy with the results. The tractor has to run at PTO rpm especially when I put 4-5" pieces into the chute, but it handles it good. I know that it is borderline for my machine, but I never chip hardwood that is larger then 2" because that goes on the firewood pile. It runs fine when I feed it cedar or pine and that was the reason to get it in the first place. It is kind of ironic that we tend to look at chippers by the max capacity, but it is the small brush that is the most "in the way" and has to be chipped up.

My BX2350 seems to be handling the Gravely PTO Pro Chipper just fine.
It's Gravely Model 993 and is a 6" rated chipper.

I got lucky, picked it up last Monday afternoon (6-2-08) just before we got hit by storms on Wednesday and Saturday. I have already chipped up a full sized wild cherry tree.

It works really well, you should get one!
It throws chips into the next town!

6" Ginma chipper currently used with BX2660, and worked fine with my BX2230. Need to run at full powerwhen chipping. On ocassion, when the blades are getting dull, with some old petrified branches approaching maximum size it would lug the tractor down. Biggest concern is weight of the chipper. Definately want to have front end loader on as balast when transporting. I use this alot and have no complaints.

Wouldn't that be funny if he really did get the one you were looking at. I guess that is how things go. If it is a good deal you should go for it or someone else will. I dove in and bought my chipper just a couple of days after looking at it. They aren't staying on the used market long if offered at a decent price.
