Yet another newbi question:

Is the PTO speed on my BX24 dependant on the trottle/RPM level?
I know the rear PTO is rated at 540rpm and the mid at somewhere around 1500-2000(?). Also, some tractors seem to have a way to vary the pto speed according to the implement... Is this the trottle?
Thanks.

Yes it is.

It's in the manual, but FYI the rear PTO hits 540 @ 3100 engine RPM.

It still seems crazy to me that it's at 3100 RPM. When I'm toting loads around on my BX, I'm typically around 2400 RPM. While hoeing, I keep it around 2600 RPM. 2600 sounds like it's at full throttle, so I can't imagine 3100. I guess I need to get over my fears of hurting something if the engine expects to see times where it's run at 3100.

Thanks, thats precisely what I needed. I need to re-read the manual yet again...

Most of the Botas with analog tachs seem to have an orange stripe where the nominal PTO rpm is reached (e.g., 2600 on mine). I am curious whether the digital tachs offer any kind of friendly reminder when you're "in the zone" ?

Btw, PTO rpm is a figure of merit...it's not like your implements suddenly stop working below 95% of it :) Many will work fine run at a lower rpm, if you're interested in saving a little fuel and wear and if it isn't hurting your productivity.

Yes, not to worry. These engines are rev-limited anyway via the throttle linkage/governor... even "full throttle" is safely below the real "redline" of the long block.

Wow.. 3100 rpm I bet that sounds like a helicopter taking off. My red and gray and blue tractors don't even redline that high!!

Hmmph---one of my other Japanese engines that is close to the same displacement redlines at something like 10,500 RPM and 3100 is below highway cruising speed:D But then again it ain't a diesel......

It's just these little guys that run so fast... Bigger Orange jobbies are just like your blue and red ones...
