When I try to start my BX25, the starter doesn't engage and the information lights go out. After I turn the ignition switch to off, the information lights glow dimly, a little buzzing sounds goes on for a while and there are some clicks that sound like a solenoid. After about 10 seconds, things finally stop. The bizarre behavior after the ignition is turned off would seem to indicate that it isn't the usual safety lockout annoyances. My first thought was a bad ignition switch, but there seems to be more going on. Any suggestions?

I see how that would cause the starter to not engage, but what would cause power to stay on after turning the ignition swithch off? A capacitor somewhere in the circuit?

On my BX23 if I remember right when you shut the switch off it activates a timer for 10 seconds which pulls a relay to shut the fuel off. At the end of the 10 seconds you can hear a click when the solenoid releases. A couple of times the wire has gotten pulled off in the woods and I have had to shut it off by hand by reaching up under the cowling on the right side. I forgot to tell the hired man about this and when it happened to him when I was gone he had to let it run out of fuel.
I suspect the battery is low. If the battery is strong and the wires are tight I would next check to see if all the fuses are making good contact. I wrapped electrical tape around my fuses and holder as the fuses tend to get loose. If this hasn't solved the problem pull the cowling off and see if the solenoid gets 12 volts for 10 seconds after you shut the switch off. If it is getting 12 volts I suspect the solenoid has gone bad. I guess it could also be the timer.
Remember this is how the BX23 works.
