BX2750 Snowblower Engine Soot

I have been using the front snowblower for about 6 hours since I got in a few months ago. I notice a lot of black soot from the diesel exhaust on the left side of the blower. Has anyone who has front blower also notice a lot of soot? What product have you found to remove the soot? I assume this is normal for a diesel??

Remove?? It's the one place I know won't rust!!!!

Seriously- there's no point in removing it unless you plan to attach some curved muffler pipe to somehow redirect the exhaust.

I use a product called "Greased Lightning" that I get at HD. I have the spray bottle and a gallon that I refill with. It is great for getting brake dust off the alloy wheels and cleaning up the soot on the blower. I only do it after the season and then give the entire blower a touch up spray paint and then wax. WD-40 works well too. I clean mine up with that every spring, along with a liberal wash down of the entire blower (with WD-40). Then it goes into the little tin shed for the summer. No rust yet, even on the impeller with no paint. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use a product called Honda Cleaner from the local cycle shop. Its a cleaner and a polish. I can clean the whole tractor with it. I also use simple green since it wont remove wax.

I made a little exhaust extension tip for my BX using a 1 1/4 copper street 45, the small end fits tight over the outlet pipe, in fact I had to smooth it up a little with a drum sander to get it to go on. I cut it off just at the beginning of the bell on the big end so it ended up parallel with the side of the machine. I just tapped mine on with a hammer and it has stayed put although one could put a hose clamp on for extra security. It now has just enough curve to it to keep the exhaust off the grill guard and the snowblower. As an added touch I sent mine off and had it chromed too! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Since I made mine up I've done two more for other BX owners in the area.

These posts always confuse me. My BX23 exhaust curves out to the side. Nothing blows forward.

Ok, so I'm answering my own question.

I was just looking at some close-ups of the exhaust on the BX23 versus the 1500/1830/2230.
The exhaust on the 23 sticks out just a liitle bit farther than the others, directing the exhaust more to the side.
