Cab or no Cab

I vote CAB. My cab has saved my azz several times. Seriously, several concussions and poked out eyeballs are probably some of the maladies I'd have suffered without the protection of my cab.

Aside from that, all the comfort benefits are amazing. I was a non believer, but now, I wouldn't want to be without a cab.

That would bend them back, and then slap into the glass.

I thought about this a lot on my last tractor purchase. I do a lot of snow removal and a lot of woods clearing / wood gathering. In the winter when clearing snow, I want a cab! The other three seasons I want a FOPS because I'm in the woods a lot and a CAB would get busted up. For me, the solution was a custom FOPS that is designed to accept plastic panels that are easy to install and remove. I'm not done with it yet and I still need to make some of the framing and panels. What I have so far is in the picture. When enclosed it wont be as nice a real cab. But it will keep me out of the wind and retain some heat.

For the cost of a factory cab I could probably pay someone else to plow my driveway for 15 years/winters.

Really? 5 grand gonna pay for that?

A factory cab is a much better deal than going aftermarket later, My DK has heat, AC, amfm CD player, sunvisor, dome light, work lights front and rear, front and rear wipers, 3 cup holders, Phone charger, tilt wheel, cruise..etc. 5 grand more than open station, a bargain IMO considering what you get, and fit and finish compared to aftermarket.

Sleet, wind, rain ,snow, 110degree heat, bees nests mosquitos who cares:laughing::drink:

I love my Cab:thumbsup:

Yep, just keeping the water and wind off you will make a huge difference, there are some aftermaket heaters out there for Jeeps and such..heater core in a box with a fan..cook you outa there;)

I had a late 70's IH 2500b with a cab for 10 years that got used "in the woods". Every light, mirror, and piece of glass with the exception of the rear window was broken or cracked. For woods work, I'd never have another cabbed machine. For field work, it was great in cold weather, but no air conditioning made it an oven in the summer.

Found a picture of it...

Sounds like operator head space and timing is an issue. but even then it took you ten years to beat it up.
I'm thinking about getting a good grapple for mine so I can reach up and snip off window scratchers from the seat. Of course mine is a soft cab and I don't expect it to last much beyond ten years anyway and can just zip it off in the summer when I'm doing the bulk of my woods work.

Too big for the woods MIB ? Thoughts...
I started out looking at the JD 5075e.
Im convinced given some other tasks that the hP s what I need, but the size does make me a wee nervous.
Problem is have o pay HST on a smaller tractor under 60 hP, so I was thinking this would have better resale afterwards ..
Don't be afraid of the tractor because of it's size.
I meant by this that the tractor is a big frame, 80hp, 78" wheel spacing at the narrowest setting, weights in at over 6000 pounds and tall.
So just be aware of this in your decision making...this is not a compact, full frame ag tractor.
Having sais that, I use it in the woods here and love it, plenty of pulling and lifting capacity.
But I would not see myself here, with the same machine with a cab, to much potential for costly badlucks
Hope this helps...and sorry if I scare you !
