I'm trying to install a Sony CD/MP3 in my M105. I've been waiting for the dealer to find me a cable connector for it. It doesn't seem to match anything used in autos. It's a nine-pin square connector. The dealer can't get the part - all I need is the female side of the connector so that I don't have to cut into the wires to direct connect.

There is already an antenna cable in the roof. I assume the speakers are connected through the nine-pin cable connector. If the dealer can't get this part I'm going to have to get the pin-out and cut the wires.

Did the 5030 come with a cable connector? And what is the insulation for?
Why on earth anyone would purchase an M105 for over 40 grand and then try to nickle and dime the radio is way beyond me. Obviously, something other than common sense is at work here.

Thanks for all the input!

Update. I went with a Sony MP3/CD Radio with Aux input for the IPOD, some rockford fosgate 4" speakers and even bought another XM Radio cradle that accepts the unit I use in the truck. I bought everything at BestBuy and purchased the 4 year, no questions asked, warranty. All this was about $300 My dealer put it all in for an extra $50 bucks. I NOW have musical options...

BTW, The 5030HSTC with the Woods RM990 is amazing.

Thanks Daryl. I am going to order a roll in preparation for many hours mowing in the heat of the summer. :)

It wasn't a high priority and the radio didn't come with the unit I bought. Before I bought the M105 I was basically against listening to music while tractoring. I like to hear and feel the tractor so that if something is going wrong I can stop before doing damage.

Since using the M105, I find the cab is really quiet and I don't need ear protection. Mowing in fields where I've already mowed and identified obstructions, I would feel comfortable listening to music to pass the time.

The factory radio doesn't do MP3 and doesn't have a forward facing input jack. It doesn't have anything to do with saving money. I'd buy the factory radio if it did what I want.

Jazzdaddy:

I guess I'm old. I don't know the difference between MP3 and BVD. Well, BVD is underwear. What is MP3?

I miss my 8 track.

MP3 is a compressed digital format for sound files. When a song file is compressed, it takes up about 90-95% less space (depending on sound quality) than the uncompressed format on a typical audio CD.

I burned my CD collection to a hard disk in MP3 format. I can now download any part of that collection to my portable player. The player has 1 GB capacity and can hold about 200 songs. An Ipod or other hard disk based player can hold thousands of songs. I want to be able to plug that player into my truck and tractor radio but manufacturers haven't added front jacks to auto players until recently.

Also an MP3 capable CD player can play MP3 files burned onto a standard CD. This way I can put 100-200 songs on a single CD.

The panisonic unit plays mp3s as well as cds, the built in noaa weather band is helpful to manage snow operations, if you do that kind of work as we do.

I get on my tractor to get away from phones, Television, and believe it or not, Music. I can't get in my "tractor zone" with the wrong kind of noise. On the rare occassion I make a National drag racing event I go sans ear protection and seek out the smell of burning rubber. Mask it and I'll stop. Whatever floats our boats I presume.

I hope one day to have enough open, obstruction free area to mow (rotary cutter) that I would feel safe enjoying the music while cutting. That's not to say the music can't be in the background and one still be paying attention to what's going on. For me, I just don't want distractions unless I am reasonably sure things are going to go very smoothly while tractoring.
I do hope to put a radio/CD/weather unit in eventually, so it's nice to see what others are doing. Is the Panasonic unit like Kubota sells available from other sources (sans Kubota logo of course, if it has a Kubota logo)?
Thanks, Terry
