Hi Kids!

In an earlier post I mentioned that I intended on setting up some additional storage facilities inside the cab of my Kubota 4330. There seemed to be usable space to either side of the instrument panel, behind the seat, and in the space normally allocated for the radio installation.

As I prefer an IPOD to a radio when operating the tractor I had the radio mount space available. I simply removed the plastic cover and made a front bezel and rear backing plate out of black cherry. The bride stitched a ten inch deep leather pocket for me and this was attached to the wood backing plate. Four brass screws to attach the two wooden parts and it was completed. I use this handy little pocket for a pair of safety glasses and a pair of reading glasses…..not that I need the reading glasses! See the photograph “HSTC-radio” for the results.

The rear seat area storage was a bit more complicated. I didn’t want to interfere with access to any of the controls, window latches/hinges, cup holder, seat, or lower tool storage bin that was provided by Kubota. I finally decided on a contoured shallow shelf that could be later modified with some deeper bins should I find the need. A cardboard pattern provided the dimensions and the shelf was constructed of black cherry over a spaulted sugar maple base plate. I drilled and tapped the lower cab rails and placed a rubber gasket between the wood and metal before mounting the shelf to the rails.
After the photographs I applied a black rubber shelf liner to the interior floors of the bins. I intend to use this shelf over the winter and then decide on any modifications that might be preferable. “HSTC-seat1” photo shows the rear view of the shelf. “HSTC-seat2” photo shows the front view. “HSTC-seat3” shows the shelf in place behind the seat as seen from the rear window.

Hmmmm…..I wonder if I can mount two candle lit carriage lamps where the radio speakers were supposed to be…….might create a nice mood for snow blowing!:D

Your buddy in dirt….

Ken

Good job. Looks like your getting ready to spend way too much time in that tractor cab. Wait, did I just say that? Never mind.
