I know the wife and I got outside in winter more when we were in Canada than we do here. Lots of fun things to do in the snow, ie dog sledding, ice fishing, driving the ice roads to places not open to summer travel just to name a few of the more sedentary activities. We enjoyed just getting out and looking at what nature had provided for us in the magically white world. We seldom get snow here (none so far this year), but get some cold windy days that drive the cold into the bones worse than the -30 to -40 temps in Canada.

If that's your residence, I'm not sure about calling it "cabin" fever. My wife and I live in a 10x15 Cabin. We have power, but no running water. Also, about two feet of snow on the ground with more falling. Obviously we live here by choice, and I'm not trying to be a jerk, but my suggestion would be to cut/split some firewood. This is a nice time to work in the woods, no bugs, and it's easier to keep your chain out of the dirt.

Yep, bundling up and getting everybody outside to do anything is a good strategy.

What Canucks get up to..... Winterlude is a big event in Ottawa. Good fun, plenty of skating to tire the kids out, and the ice sculptures are worth going for alone. Leaving your skates on and ordering a beverage of your choice.... It's a Canadian thing !

Does bend your brain, sometimes in interesting directions. One particularly bad winter, a guy I know cleaned out his garage, got a load of sand dumped inside, and threw a beach party. Desperate times call for desperate measures

A co-worker took an assignment in Lulea Sweden. 70 miles from the Artic circle Lulea Sweden. 4 hours of daylight in the winter Lulea Sweden. Temps mostly below 0 Lulea Sweden. He said the best piece of advice ever given to him was "you can live WITH the winter, or you can just survive it." The Swedes still do things outside as appropriate, ie not in a snowstorm. They ice fish, ski (snow and cross-country), bicycle (yes, saw it with my own two eyes), hike, etc. Just dress appropriately. The thing that blew my mind was they use wheeled loaders to scrape snow off of the roads. They also didn't use any salt for two reasons. One it's too cold to work and two, apparently the moose stand in the road licking the salt and cause wrecks.

How many have sat in the shade of summer's 90-110F heat and wished for winter to hurry up and get here only to then sit bundled up and wish for spring.

Never done that Gary. I live in Ontario Canada and will gladly trade you some of my winter for a few of your sweltering summer days.

I would also trade you some(all) of those sweltering days for the winter days this year

I'd be skidding those saw logs over the "not enough snow to need plowed". Better than dragging them through the spring mud.

I would spend more time outside if circumstances alowed... dark by the time I get home from work... wife is expecting a baby in about 6 weeks so there's chores around the house to help with... she won't let the kids out unless its warmer, they tend to come down with colds easy she says...

I am all about makin the best of it... and I do... but I am not a fan of winter. Spring summer fall, fine. You won't hear me complaining about the heat...

I dont know that I could skid logs... steep hills and snow make that an insane proposition. Cutting the locust will require cutting a lot of brush just to get to them... my plan there is older kids helping when the weather is such that momma lets them outside.

We will make it thru... always do... just venting. Glad to hear from y'all. Surfin here is my winter passtime... drives my wife nuts!
