Jerry, that's a great job and something to be really proud of. In many ways, it reminds me of TXDon's cabin, but his is not logs and has a breezeway down the center. Having a comfortable place to stay on weekends goes a long way. I built my cabin inside a portable building, but as soon as I had running water and a septic system, I felt like I was home.

Also, I think being in view of a road helps keep out vandals. I have four neighbors who have had breakins and all of them are out of sight from the road and hidden in trees. Having cover and a place to hide can encourage vandalism. All my stuff is in clear view of the road and I've never had a problem...knock on wood.

Very nice cabin!! We built ours a lot smaller but it beats the heck out of sleeping in the back of the truck or tenting it. I have had problems with vandals. We are way back at the end of a mile long dead end road and surrounded by Forest Service land. I get in the habit of removing all valuables when I leave (within reason) and leaving the curtains open so that they can see there is nothing to steal inside. I also leave a note on the window saying that no guns, generators etc, etc are stored inside. I have not had a break in since I did this a few years back. It is a darn shame that I am forced to do this. It beats not having remote cabin though.

As a rookie cop, I had one business on my beat that had a sign in the front window addressed to "All Burglars" saying that the safe had no valuables in it and that "it is not locked, so please don't destroy it." The place had been burglarized in the past and the burglars turned the safe upside down and chopped a hole in the bottom of it when it wasn't even locked.:D

So far, I've never had my home burglarized, but I have a little "fire safe" with documents I hope would survive a fire or tornado. It's locked so it wouldn't accidentally come open in a disaster, but I have a sign taped to it with the combination and a statement that it contains only documents; no valuables.:D

It's a shame all people don't work and Some have to steal off the ones who do. Hope they don't meet up with an armed citizen unexpectedly.. Oh well..

The Dallas Morning News has a short story today about a burglar who was armed with a gun he'd just taken in another burglary, but the homeowner took the gun away from him and beat him unconscious. According to the paper, he was lying in a pool of blood when the police arrived, and he's now in the hospital. That's probably more likely to reform him than any prison time.

TNH- Very nice cabin! Was it hard to install the wood ceiling?
Rox, thanks for the compliment. The ceiling is 1 X 6 tongue and grooved pine. It wasn't hard installing, just time consuming. I was very pleased with the look when finished.
