Anyone know of a good SIMPLE cad program for windows? I'm looking for a 2-d, basic thing- just want something to draw plans up with for woodworking projects. thanks in advance. Freeware and shareware are welcome!

Check on CADvance. Version 6.x was free, Version 7.x was about $50. Version 6 runs on Windows 95/98/ME. Version 7 runs on Windows 2000/XP. Version 7 has some 3D capability, I can't remember if 6 does.

Google around until you can find a site that still has a working link for IMSI's TurboCad LE (learning edition).

LE is a free, full working, but older version of IMSI's CAD packages. LE is a very good, very powerful, 2D CAD package.

It will actually run on a 486 (remember those) with 16MB or more of ram and W95 - so in other words just about any normal PC is fine.

Can't beat it for the price. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

thanks guys- I knew someone would have the info. I found a link to the LE-http://www.freecad.com/cgi-bin/dcd/html/CAD_Programs___General_Purpose/index-4.htm

I got it loaded, but have not had a chance to do anything yet. I will get the other suggestion going soon and let you know what I think.

again- thanks much

Thanks for the info on the CAD program. We're going to try it ourselves.

Friend of mine wintering in Fla. was having trouble after wiring his workshop...so he sent me a schematic of his wiring.

I was blown away by what he sent....it was done using an IMSI CAD program which he said he's used for several years.

By the time I received the schematic, he had found his mistake and corrected the problem.

I suspect that the IMSI CAD product would be all that you would need for quite a while.

I've been playing with the Turbo Cad LE- it looks like it is the ticket. I started to down load the CAdvance, but it asked for some information, which I supplied- they now have to send me a registration number- which the web says can take a week. By then I should have figured out the Turbo Cad and built the first project!

Again, thanks for the input.
