Anyone crazy enough to build one? How much did it cost? I know Metkits has the entire kit to build a 1007 loader for $1600+. There is a Bushhog 2240 QT available locally for $1150. Well used and weathered. Needs a new bucket and I would have to adapt brackets to fit my Massey 1125. The 2240QT is not quick detach and also uses two lever controls (cannot float the loader for smoothing).

$1600 for the parts to build the Cadplans 1007 + $140 for plans is a lot for something I must build myself.

Just curious if anyone has been there, done that.

Thanks
Mike

Go for the Bush Hog. I wish it were close by me.

I built a CadPlans 907, total cost was about $1,000. However, It is a smaller loader. The plans were excellent, the loader came out great! I was also a very rewarding experience! I would do it again in a heartbeat, in fact I am considering building a backhoe.

Matt , great job on the loader, looks very much like one that came from the factory, except for the color.... Yuk... I'm hoping that's just the primer base paint and the finishing color will look more "traditional". /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

That IS the finishing color!

That Cadplans 907 loader looks very good. I have been seriously considering building one for my Satoh Beaver tractor. I'd be interested to know the breakdown of the price.... Is that basically the cost of parts, and did you do the cutting/welding/assembly yourself?

Matt, you did a great job with your 907 loader. I would also like to get a breakdown of what you bought and how many hours you had invested in construction.

Thanks

The loader looks great! My buddy and I are beginning to build a CADPLANS Digger model 821. I hope it turns out as well.

Did you make the hoe from scratch or get the kit?

It looks great!!!

Does it do what the planmakers say it will do?

Hi Everyone, Thanks for the comments on my loader. That is the correct factory color for that vintage yanmar tractor.
As for the price breakdown, I don't have the listing in front of me, however, here it is from memory (approximate):
Hydraulics, from CadPlans/Metkit..........$700.00
Steel and additional hydraulic fittings....$250.00
Paint, Dupont Centari.........................$100.00

I had some custom fittings made in the machine shop where I work at N/C.

Most of the steel was aquired from the scrap bin where my brother works.

There are obviously additional costs in welding, grinding, and shop supplies etc. that were not tracked.

It took two of us approximatly 2 months, nights and some weekends to build.

Yes, a 20 HP would run it, my tractor is a 13 HP diesel, with about 1000 lb machine weight not including loader and added weight.

Hope this answers everyones questions, if not feel free to post more, or email direct (mbrule@rcn.com), I also have many pictures of all phases of contruction.

That was from scratch. It's using a reclaimed (& rebuilt) 11hp B&G from a leaf blower. The son-in-law worked at a fabrication shop at the time and was able to save a lot from the scrap bins. The only thing I purchased from Metkit was the hydraulics kit. Total investment was maybe $1500. I got away cheap. It does do all they said it would. I've worked it pretty hard.

I like your approach. I have the 907 plans and have started the construction but have had to sidelines things for a while due to lack of time. I am going to buy the basic hydraulics from MetKit (cylinders ,valve and joystick) and get all of the metal locally in Southern Cal. I had the four main boom arm pieces cut at a local shop with an NC controlled flame cutter for $50 and they all came out clean and identical. The rest of the metal parts I can cut with my chop saw or have the scrap yard band saw them to size. I am going to have the hydraulic lines made locally and plan to use rigid steel tubing to each cylinder and then couple to each cylinder with a short flex line. This looks cleaner than using all flex hosing.

Gerlacr:

That is very similar to what I did as far as the steel. I like the idea of the steel tubing for the hydraulics, will probably cost a bit more, but will be a lot better looking!
