I was poking around in the www.cadplans.com website and they have plans for building a tractor, called the CADTrac, that looks like a mini-articulated loader. The drive is all hydraulic and the kit (without the engine) is about 6,000.

Has anyone investigated building this little beast?

I just received the plans, will check into scrounging the motors over the next few days. Then I'll work on negotiating a work space and the rest of the details with the "Head of the House". Looks a little beyond my personal ablilities right now, but nothing that can't be learned. I think the toughest part (other than finding a suitable motor) will be hooking up the hydraulics, but the instructions seem complete. Some more study of the plans should clear that up in due time. Overall, looks VERY DOABLE.

In my searches for a tractor, I saw those as well. Looked real interesting. Also looked like a lot of work when compared to purchasing a Power Trac PT400 series tractor already assembled for the same price. You might want to check them out.

we had in mind to build one of those things also, but once you figure out the purchase of the matl and every thing else. plus paying a welder unless you are very good at doing this yourself, your cost is around $6400.oo plus dollars. i have seen, touched and watched that thing operate, it is ok but for another thousand dollars you have a super machine and great support from the service staff at PT
