Hi,

THe answers to a question I posted Here convinced me that a 5' standard duty rotary cutter would be what I should buy for use with my B2910.

Should I choose a 5' rotary cutter over a 4' unit? I will NOT be cutting heavy grass as far as I can predict.

What are you B27/2910 owners using as far as brush hogs go? Anyone actually using a 48" cutter?

Plan on buying something this spring... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Any help greatly appreciated!

Henro,
I have a 5ft. Howse cutter that I use behind my B2710. I have cut down stuff that was taller than the ROPS with no problems! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I would get the 5 ft. one for sure, if I were you.

Yes, but only briefly. I bought a new 48" cutter to go with my B7100, and when I traded up to a B2710, I used that 48" cutter once, then promptly went and traded it for a 60" cutter. Nothing wrong with using a 48" one; just takes longer, and I couldn't get as close to the fences since it wasn't as wide as the rear tires on the tractor.

I've used my friend's 48" Woods Brushbull on his BX2200 to mow weeds taller than the ROPS with no problem or bogging. Go with a mower at least as wide as your tractor. The B27 and B29 should have no problem at all with a 5 footer.

I have a B2410 and use a 5' King Kutter rough cut on it. I've taken down some pretty thick stuff without any problem. I'd certainly go with the 5' with the 27 or 29 HP bota.

If you are cutting 1' or less diameter material (grass and weeds), one problem with using a 4' field mower with the larger B series tractors is that you aren't cutting outside your tire tracks and sometimes the grass that you roll over twice will pop back up and look unsightly. The second is that you can't mow close to objects. The 5' mowers are a good fit on the B7800, B2710 and the B2910 tractors.

I've got a 5-foot light-duty Bush Hog that somebody abused the heck out of, but it was cheap, and I don't use it much. I wouldn't go smaller because there is no lack of power there with my 2910. 3" diameter cedars get turned into splinters really quick and neither the tractor or the cutter seems to notice.

One thing I do have a problem with is adjusting the cutter so that it doesn't dig in the front and at the same time not lift off the ground when going over a hump. Perhaps the swinging toplink I have causes it, and if so, I would avoid that design in conjunction with the relatively small 3-pt hitch of the 27-2910 series.

You should get the 5', I think. My dad has a 4' and a 6', and the smaller one is tedious to use, although it gives a much better cut.

Bill,
I think a 60" will suit your needs best. As others have mentioned, you want something that will cover your tracks. I am running a KingKutter 60" on my 2710. I have been well pleased with the performance match between the tractor and implement. It is also hard to beat KingKutter for the money/value factor, as long as you know the limitations of your equipment. I suspect we have the same type of terrain and foliage to contend with, hilly and anything that grows a thorn. Good luck on your choice.

Thanks everyone for the input!

I've decided it will certainly be a 5 footer, standard duty rotary cutter.

I was pretty sure that was what would work best for me, but now that everyone who responded said 5' is what they use...well, that just set the concrete. Soooooo...in about two months I should be the proud new owner of a rotary cutter!

Thanks again... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
