i am about to purchase a tiller i'm looking at king kutter @ tsc. i can't use a 4' because even with the offset it still dosent cover the wheel tracks. i'am at 5' wide because of r4's i measered one at tsc yesterday, they did not have a 5' to measure. my question is the 5' really 5'. will the 5' tiller actually cover my tracks. could someone please help with this before i make a mistake.

Well I'm not going to go out the barn again tonight to measure the wheel width but as memory serves, my R4's are 60" wide. I have a 5' KK tiller and have not had a problem with wheel tracks. My ground is stony and these things just go right on through. Very tough tiller.

Not an answer to your question, but have about a 4ft length of 2 by 4 handy at all times when using this tiller.
Mine will jam on rocks and segments of roots, once it has torn through them and pulled them up.
Use the 2 by 4 as a lever to turn the tiller backwards {Engine off, PTO disengaged, tractor brakes set, etc}

I don't have a KK, but I do have a 60" tiller and when I'm tilling deep enough to drag the outer shaft bearing supports the tire tracks are covered. I still have think about entering and exiting small plotsso as to not leave tire prints in the smaller plots. I've turned away people that have too small of plots or people that will plant a fruit tree in the middle and expect me to till around it or put rediculious fences. A 35 hp utility tractor with a tiller needs room. The other little nemisis is I tell people I don't repair underground pipe or wires. It they want tilling done they'd better have enough soil depth to do that. bjr

Get the 6' tiller and be done with it.:cool: If you are gonna spend that much money on a tiller, you might as well have the one that will guarantee you cover your tracks.

I love my 6' KKII tiller. I recently started using it to loosen topsoil before using my loader to dig and haul dirt. It works perfectly. I can scoop loose and fluffy soil instead of compacted soil. I also know what the makeup of soil is before I start digging it. There are lots of uses for a tiller besides gardening.:)

bjr are you running r'4's and what is the width of your tractor?

I have a Kioti ck35 with industrial tires. I have been using a King Kutter 60inch tiller for two years and the width is perfect. My tires are not off-set (wider than standard with a spacer kit) and the tiller just covers the tracts fine. There is plenty of hp to spin the 60inch tiller and I can run it in second gear in ground that has been previously worked before. However I stick to first gear on virgin ground. I have found that the tiller does not need to be run at 540rpm, and can work just fire at a lower rpm. This tiller has been, for lack of a better word, GREAT. I now have met all my neighbors (tilling their gardens for free), and a little help with a neighbor in the country goes a long way. Good luck with your decision!

I have 25 pto hp and I do fine.
The only time I ever notice the tiller is when I am tilling DEEP in previously tilled ground. Then I just slow down a bit. It's easy with a hydro tranny is you have one.

To answer one of your original questions, yes a 5 ft KK cuts a full 5 feet.

I apologize. I fully meant to say what tractor outside dimensions were, it's 60". It's a JM354 Jinma with R-1's. I just kinda get wound out using a utility size tractor to help out people with the small garden plots that actually needs to have the small self propelled tiller doin' the work. I need to start saying "No" more often and then being honest and saying why I can't do the work. bjr

My neighbor has the same frame tractor as yours but it is a farmtrac and he has the 5' KKII tiller. It clears the tires but barely. It is a good match though. He put my 6' KKII tiller on and it worked good but it made his tractor work.:D

I say you will have no problem with the 5' tiller.

I have never had to use anything to pry rocks out with. I have had quite a few make the slip clutch slip. I just shut the PTO off and drive backwards a couple feet with the tiller on the ground. It has always made the rock dislodge without ever getting off the tractor.

I will work on getting a measurement. For now here are a couple pictures of his tractor with the tiller on it.

My neighbors tractor width is 61" to the outside of the tires.

That kind of sucks that your tires are not adjustable.
