I am also thinking I want chains for my 2410 w/R4s. I also will go with the ladder style with the 2-link crosschain spacing, not the 4-link spacing. I didn't think there would be a with problem the crosschains getting lost in the lugs, but I'm glad to hear they don't from your actual experience

I just received an email that my chains have shipped from http://www.tirechains.com in 2 boxes, total weight, 98 pounds! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif One is 43 pounds, the other 55 pounds. I hope my UPS guy has his truss with him! Heck, I hope I can find my truss. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

The UPS guys are a hardy bunch.

I had my toothbar delivered by UPS and it weighed in around 70 lbs and was a bear to handle. 60" + long with protruding shartp teeth. I know that he must have been cussing our delivery out that day. Toothbar damage - none. Other packages - Lord knows....

OBTW, what was the shipping charge for those 98 lbs, if you don't mind my asking.

That's reasonable!!

I've informed the CFO about the probability of needing chains. The eye's began to roll around and the look of consternation was apparent.

Computers/Tractors/Children are high maintenance items which need constant upgrades and care. The first two get the evil eye. The last goes unsaid.... Whoops - unless one of the first two have direct effect on the CFO. Now that's different!! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Terry,

I'm with you on the eye-rolling CFO. I've been instructed to see how well my 4wd works before going the chain route!!!

Lots of good info on chains. Since this is the first winter with the L4310 I'll see how it does before I buy chains. I've put chains on tractors before and it's no party. They weigh alot and it takes some fiddling around to get them to fit right and tight so they don't come loose and smack the fenders as they go round.
My neighbor is an excavator and has a small Ford utility tractor he uses to clear driveways with(uses the FEL). 4WD, Ag tires, and a little larger than my L4310. He never uses chains and it seems like nothing stops the thing.
Of course, now that we have tractors we won't get a flake of snow this winter.

My CFO just received a delivery yesterday of some doodad for the horses, so I felt safe in ordering the chains. And, come to think of it, the chains are for the horses. Chains are for the tractor, tractor is needed to plow the driveway at the barn so she can get to the horses. Therefore, the horses need the chains. Hmmm, this is kind of a seven degrees of separation deal. Any purchase is eventually related to something the CFO wants/has. How about if you try this approach and let me know how it works? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Mike,

It's not so much as really having to convince. Just trying to get the appropriations.

Sometimes its like working with the Gov't. Ya have to develop some 1 yr plans, 2 yr plans, etc. Anything beyond that comes out of the current budget and something else needs to suffer.

She's tough!!! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Hey, I think we need a new discussion added to this forum.... convincing the CFO!! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Muhammad what do you think..

brucecvoss - you asked for some personal experience - I have chains for all 4 R4 tires on my Cub Cadet 7260, but have never used the rear ones. I plow my 1/4 mile, far from flat, driveway here in Northern VT. using the chains on the front tires only. It works real well. Besides increasing overall traction enabling me to get up my driveway with no problems even in icy conditions, they enable me to steer the tractor when my rear mounted grader blade is angled off to one side (a BIG plus), rear fender clearance is not a problem (although on my Cub there is sufficient clearance), and they don't effect the 'ride' nearly as much as rear mounted chains do. I made up my own chains from old dump truck chains, so they aren't anything fancy (and the price was real right..). Oh, I might add that I have all 4 tires loaded with windshield washer antifreeze.
