Does anyone have experience with Caltric replacement parts?

The front hood of our X590 has been severely damaged. We've been patching it on with duct tape for the past several years, but it's barely hanging together and opening/shutting it has to be done very gently, lest the whole thing fall completely apart.

The tractor is in the shop now, and they priced me a new OEM hood for $1200. No thanks to that. I'm looking at eBay, and Caltric is offering a replacement hood for the X590 for $210. What's wrong with this, I wonder? Is it cheaply made, or maybe it won't fit, or ...? It does have a 90 day warranty. Maybe it's worth a shot?

I have had mixed results with their ATV parts. Some work great but had issues with a U joint yoke for a Kaw ATV were the splines were slightly oversize and would slip under load.

Have pics of the damage? I've found that for cracks in the plastic that heated staples work quite well to stitch the cracks together and they have held up well.

Showing crack in JD 425 side panel repaired fairly well using this staple kit that melted staples into the plastic. Wanted to get around buying new parts from after market sources as the Deere color never seems to be a good match. After two years, happy with the results of the repairs.

Showing the crack front side, the repaired crack backside, and the heating tool to heat the staples and melt them into the plastic.

Let's just say that it's quite a bit more than a few cracks. Multiple collisions with large, low hanging tree and shrub branches. I grimace every time I gingerly open and shut it. Will post some pics if I get a chance.

I had bought a couple of aftermarket Deere hoods, they weren't Caltric, but another brand. Neither had any install issues at all. My experience w/ Caltric, though limited has been good.

Thanks, I'm leaning toward trying this. It seems worth a shot for $200. I might add a grill/brush guard, too. We do a lot of mowing in some fairly rough tree and shrub areas -- that's what caused all of the damage.

I’d try it. Aftermarket Deere plastics are usually pretty useable.

$1200 seems a bit pricey. The X590 hood is made up of 4 individual pieces... top, left panel, right panel and grill. Do you need to replace all four pieces?

Even adding up the price of all four pieces only comes to $960 LIST and you can usually do a bit better than list some places.

This is one of those cases where JD's reduced cost idea didn't work out. The reason for the 4-piece hood was so it would cost less to repair as you could just replace the damaged section. However, the previous design hood which was all one piece with a separate grill only costs $574. So having the four separate pieces costs almost twice as much. Doesn't make much sense does it?
