What have you done / plan to do with your off grid container?

As stated earlier, we plan get our butts out there and use it pretty much the same as they did. We'll need to bring our 2000watt generator and potable water along etc, etc and see how it goes.. The weekends weather looks perfect! 😀

Yeah, between solar/battery technology, LED lighting, 12v coolers/refrigeration, 12v accessories like fans, propane on-demand hot water heaters, diesel heaters, internet hotspots, composting toilets, etc. It has never been easier to live off grid. One can make a VERY comfortable existence in the bush and it doesn't have to break the bank. It is almost like cheating! I am starting to outfit my little off grid container cabin for more comfortable living as I have a buddy staying there. It has been fun to research and design these systems.

I suppose I should have quoted the previous quote. Sometimes it's nice just to see what has worked for others, rather than being told what you should do.

Hope this all works out great for you.
Stressful, but fun!

We are planned a modest weekend out there eating well, clearing brush at the parking lot and on the one mile in that has several dead-falls across it. Dang if I can find the gate photos now. Found!

Yes. It's so easy nowadays. When I built my cabin in 2016, at the time I was researching how to power it efficiently. The best option then was a diesel generator, followed by a small honda generator. The diesel generator would provide power at 2x the efficiency of the honda, at 4x the price.

Fast forward to today and I power my cabin with a 2000w solar generator. I can get 3 nights out of one charge. Then it takes 5 hours to recharge it with the honda generator. I also use a 40 pound propane tank to power the stove and on demand water heater. I can go two years before the propane needs refilled.

In less than 10 years, the power issue has gone from a small diesel generator to a solar generator. Propane use was a wash.

My cabin is wired like a house and I use LED lights. Power is really the least of my concerns anymore. I dabbled in some solar panels this year, but I need to build a stand that I can rotate with the sun to get full efficiency. I have a mountain to my south that takes some sun away and to make it work, it will need to be a setup that rotates.

The biggest issue with any off grid property is water. You either haul it in or you drill a well. If you're lucky you can use a spring, like I can. That is what you will spend the money on. Then being off grid, you can't use it in the winter.

It's a learning curve and it takes a few years to figure everything out. Heck, I'm still learning every year. Solar is my next issue to tackle.

A current picture with the little shed i built. I hate shed roofs so I built a gable roof end and will sheet it like the small cabin. Need covered storage.

Where I get my water and what prevents me from having good solar, my mountain.

Yep, we had snow already a couple of weeks ago.
