Campaign for Square Boxes

Guess what I've been doing. It has caused me to wish to start a campaign for square boxes. No more rounded corners! This seems to be especially common in little kids toys. I have trouble enough wrapping the nice small rectangular boxes neatly....I don't need complications. Of course, this would all be a small concern if my wife didn't feel the need to buy every toy known to humanity for the grandkids. I swear they'll still be unwrapping their presents when they're my age.

My pet peeve is stuff that comes in a bubble pack. Just no neat way to wrap them as is, and I hate to repackage them..............chim

I'm with you! I'm going to make it as easy as I possibly can.

I do, however, really enjoy reboxing items into other boxes, and watching the receivers face when they open a box that shows a foot massager but they really find that new book, or Ipod, or whatever.

Gary , i am like you or at least i used to be especially when my kids were older in thei teens, i would wrap thier gifts and put nos. on them and write down with no' went to which kid or i would buy something they wanted,(something small) and put it i a larger box and even went so far as to put some extra wieght in the box , used to drive then crazy, but they loved it!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

yep, i got one of those wife/grandmothers too. i always wrap em in the funny papers and sometimes use 2" clear tape. she gets ticked at me when i won't use scissors. Why? when i got a perfectly good case pocket knife. you can always pick out presents from me without looking at the tag. the kids usually look for them first......... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I have been trying to fool my wife for 30 years. The small thing in big box, extra weight, ring packed inside something else, etc. Nothing worked. I may have it this year. I ordered some DVD's she wanted back in Nov. Well they won't ship till Jan. So I got a 4x4" box, printed the "sorry, delayed shipment" statement, filled box with paper and neatly folded the note on top. Carefully sealing one end of the box with thousand mile an hour tape so she has to open the right end. On the bottom of the box, under the paper is the gold necklace. Came out that with the note removed, the box feels like it is empty except for the paper.

This year I think I've got a winner. My wife has been wanting a pair of diamond stud earings for about 15 years. This year I finally got them. We usually agree not to buy each other gifts to leave the finances for the kids & grand kids. What I want to do is hang the small gift bag with the earings in the tree and let her find them. I've also bought a very "romantic" George Foreman Grill as a decoy gift. Nope it won't work, you need to change it to: You can't bear to throw away any 5 gallon bucket, regardless of what was last in it!

I have trouble passing on the buckets, but I really can't stand to see the 55 gallon blue plastic barrels that get emptied about once a month go to someone else. I may have to build a storage facility just for the barrels I bring home.

Back about 15 years ago i fooled my wife( did not intend to ) at that time we did not have a garage so every morning it was get into a cold car and brush the snow and scrape the windows so i bought a rathe new item(quite expensive at the time) and had a remoter starter installed on her car. wrapped up the little remote and when she opend it she said it was an odd KEY RING but very nice all 3 of the kids all thogh they were not reall kids any longer started laughing, she had absoulty no clue what that key ring was, once i showed her she was thrilled and we have had one on every car since, AND WE have a garge now but sill handy when at work and sub zero temps or in the summer, nice to get in a cool car.

several years ago i built an engine for a jeweler friend of mine, in exchange for a nice diamond dinner ring ( i love the barter system) he had made. when it got time to give my wife ( of 35 years) her present, i took her out in the garage to show her what i had MADE for her. i pulled the cover off the engine on the stand and started telling her about the features and benefits of this beauty motor i built for her. the look on her face was priceless. when she finally decided i was serious, she asked "what can i do with it?". after a few good suggustions i had i told her, " well if you don't want it, i know someone whos willing to swap this even for it" and handed her the ring. the boy gained some points that year. I never throw away a 5 gallon plastic bucket because no matter how many I have around I can never find an empty one when I need it.

They are so handy and have so many uses I keep them all plastic or metal

Why throw free ones away then have to go to wall mart and pay 4 bucks apiece for them.

Boy I wish I could get 55 gallon and 30 gallon plastic barrels free.
I need a bunch of them to cut in half to line ditches with.
Need enough of them to do 600 feet of ditches.
Got any idea where I could check on getting them free?

The chemistry departments of major universities buy large volumes of solvents. Many come in metal 55 gal drums, but ethanol comes in the plastic barrels. There are probably various kinds of companies that use ethanol like this, but I'd bet they save and sell their barrels, though that might be a source of relatively cheap ones.
