Can’t Sell My Bushhog

CalG I had about $350 in light service work on my 48 inch walk behind DR mower.
I know equipment prices are high now but I bought a heavy duty 72 inch Bush Hog brand several years ago for $700. I have had a TSC brand 5 foot bush hog, mine was light duty and in thicker stuff took a beating. Maybe a bit high on price but I have not kept up on sales. Hope it sells for you soon.

Honestly, as a Buyer, I don't care if it still has the manual zip tied to the PTO shaft, that has never been hooked up, if it's more than 50% of the new price, I'm not even going to consider making an offer. If I'm going to pay new price, then I'll buy new, if I'm buying used, I'm looking for a hefty discount, and personally, I like to hover near scrap price. That's not good news for you, but just trying to give you a buyers perspective.

Exactly, pay new price and get it new direct from dealer.

There is quite a large sales tax here on things (15%) People will buy something new for say $2000, pay $300 tax for a total of $2300 then try to sell it $1900 "cash no tax private sale" as if $400 is this huge discount on a used machine.

While ideal for a scut, the # of people that are looking to hog with their scut are few.

Tractor House gets mostly ag people and dealers. Your market would be Facebook.

When you have something you can't get what you want for it you either have to drop the price and move on or put the item in an ag auction, let the crowd drop the price for you and then move on. Over the course of life, it all evens out.

Posting a few pics would help guys here take a look and give you a better appraisal.

I've noticed folks around me, switching to flail mowers over rotary cutters in the past few years. Old timers and younger. That, on top of the price issues or whatnot, might be a factor as well.

I’ve been trying to sell my 48 inch rotary cutter in suburban NJ. It’s been on Craigslist and Marketplace for 6 months, not even a bite

It was too large for my x730 (shocker)

Any ideas? My dealer won’t take it.

The hard truth is it's overpriced. That's always the answer when something doesn't sell. Price adjustments account for all other factors. I paid $700 not long ago for a very clean 5 ft Land Pride in the Midwest. What you have is a $500-800 at most mower.

Seems like there must be a reasonable market for a 4 footer, or manufacturers wouldn't mess with them.

Actually it’s a perfect size for subcompact tractors.

I have 48 inch behind my JD 2305 and I love it, I cut a couple of properties with it and it is great for cutting between trees . I have cut weeded lot where the weeds were 4 ft tall and cutting in low range , it handled it like a champ !!!

When I bought my current much larger tractor, I sold my 48” Landpride cutter for $700. That was all I could get because most people are seeking larger cutters. Might be great for a BX or similar subcompact.

I paid $695 for a used 48 inch cutter like new for my 2305 JD
