Can a TC24 run a 72\" finish mower?

My new TC24DA is being delivered later today and I have found another dealer that has a new/used FDR1572 Land Pride finish mower. Do you think the TC24 would handle that thing OK? I would be cutting an acre of grass, nothing crazy tall or anything. They want $1200 for the mower, they sell the new FDR1672 for $1600 and this used one is actually new but a guy brought it back and traded in on a different implement since it had sat for a year and he hadn't even hooked it to his tractor yet. Oh yea I got my new TC24DA for $15250 with loader. Was that OK?

I saw here on TBN a 72" on a John Deere 2210. I guess it would work for shorter grass but you would have to run slow. Also I would think the front end of that tractor would need some weight or you could keep your loader on.

But I think you can deal with the dealer a bit more.

Wow that was a fast reply, this place is great. The mower is actually on consignment so I offered the sales guy $1000 which he then has to call the guy and then get back in touch with me as to what he says. I was half tempted to just buy it for the $1200 but I figure patience might pay off.

As Murph has already mentioned about the weight concern. You're pushing close to 600 pounds with that mower and you'll feel it when raising the mower up and down. So make sure you have some ballast on the front of somekind. It'll make for a better ride as well. Just for easy ref. here's a link to the specs on the FDR1672 .
For what your wanting it for... just the acre of lawn mowing my guess is it would work fine but, I wouldn't try cutting a pasture down with it. If I had to make the choice I might consider the 5 footer instead.

Congratulations on your new tractor you'll have a blast with it. Price wise I'm not the big price comparison guy but, I know there's folks on here that can better answer that so I'll leave that door open. You'll have enough HP to run it - I have a 60" MMM on my TC18. As others have said, some front weight will be required - either weight kit of some kind or leave the loader on...

My grass must be thicker than yours because there is absolutely no way I could run a 72" mower with my TC24D. Now I have sparce areas were the 60" deck breezes through the grass, but in the thick areas I can choke it down even at full RPMs.

I didn't say my TC18 runs the 60" deck with power to spare.... I have very thick grass - I have to cut it 2X per week in the spring in an attempt to keep the clippings under control. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Will the TC24 run a 72" deck - yes, if he has big hills and thick grass, will he be wishing for more HP or a smaller deck - yes! For $1,000 I'd sure try the 72" deck...

The specs on the FDR1672 shows 3/4" to 5-1/4" I assume the FDR1572 should be close to the same.
