can air conditioner operate on natural gas to air-condition home?

Think outside the box.

How much gas is available for free? Does it have to be for your own residential use? Can you figure out a way to sell the gas and use the money to pay your electric bill? This has the same effect on your finances as gas powered A/C but only involves common technology.

Even think about a light industrial use where free gas heat would be a big incentive. Say a bakery with gas ovens.

someone would have to pipe it to said business. someone would have to maintain the gas line . what about liability in the event someone got hurt, explosion, fires ,etc,.
Not sure an individual (average joe) would even be allowed to to sell ,or transport nat gas through a pipe line to serve customers.
Then there's that Liability thing that keeps popping up

Can you get a 2 way running electric meter like they use with solar panels? Then you could power up a lighter duty natural gas generator to run the meter backwards for a couple hours a day. You could use on grid power most of the time and still pay $0 or even get paid for electricity. This would allow for a lighter duty cycle generation and have obvious benefits of not running a generator all the time.

The gas is clean I believe. I don't have any special stuff added to my boiler furnace. Just off the shelf. Same for clothes dryer. Interesting thing, the gas smells like natural gas. I always thought an oder is added by gas companies. I don't need that .. I have thought a nat gas car would be great, but too much trouble to compress and pump into car.

I also have "free" natural gas from an oil well on my property. Mine is limited to 200,000 cubic feet per year. I know that seems like a lot, but on top of all the natural gas appliances, I could never run a genny for electric and stay below that limit.

Well head gas has a lot of moisture in it, and can gunk up some valves, but I wouldn't be scared to run a generator on a limited basis (power outages). They do sell units for compressing natural gas at home, but when I researched it they were clear that well head gas was not suitable, due to moisture content.

The smell your gas has comes from the well head, and is most likely from the oil. It not the same as the additive put in by the gas company. I can also "smell the gas" down around the well head at my place. I'll not get into the safety aspect, as I'm sure that your aware of your responsibilities.

Would the cooling units from a refrigerator truck (reefer truck) work?

Some of these run off of natural gas (perhaps converted from LP).

He has an oil well on his property and natural gas is escaping from the well casing. Rather than just burning it (as a 24/7 flare), he has the contractual right to pipe it to his home and burn it as a "free" fuel.

To be so lucky as to have free fuel. All of my so called free fuel is firewood and I have to bust my hump to get it.

I get 450,000 cf and have an allowance for additional hook up 250,000 if daughter wants to build and use. She likes house she has now and no plans to build.
I negotiated good "free" gas. But, I didn't negotiate anything else. Didn't have lawyer. Maybe better off?? Using gas for 8 years. Boiler sensors working fine, knock on wood. Gas dryer same. 2 gas fireplaces also. I think the oder from the gas might be from sulphur, but I don't know. I am limited to "household use" of gas. If a farmer, it would have been good to have lease state farm use too. At the well head, I have a device that runs the gas through a antifreeze bath. I don't know if the antifreeze is to keep excess water from freezing. I should check during year for water getting to a high point and drain and refill with fresh antifreeze. Change once a year, Never had to do it more than that.

Honda, I believe, had a system for compressing home nat gas and filling Honda car as needed. The knock out in my info was the expense for servicing the compressing unit after so many hours. I think the unit shut of after so many hours. Rebuilding unit very expensive. I don't know if Honda still makes the home compressor for gas. In addition, I'm not sure if Honda actually made the compressor or if used a different manufacturer.

I called gas company because I smelled gas. They checked it out fast. Safety is always number 1 with my company.

Have a good day......Coffeeman

Interesting thought. I wonder what it would cost for device that sells power back to power company. Could follow gas meter and cut off gas use before going over allowance.

For residential use only. I have to discuss home bakery business with the other half. I don't think she will be positive about her working bakery biz.
