Kubota BX2200
I have a Bx 2200 diesel. I mow 2.5 acres of lawn. My tractor is now losing power going up hill. Filters recently change. Tank was cleaned. I do know the place I purchase my diesel from only has #2 grade in the summer. Is this my issue?

I will share with you what I was told many years ago when I purchased my first scut or compact tractor. "This is not a agriculture tractor, sure it has a diesel motor but the injectors are smaller. We have had a problem with the dye used in "Home" or "Off Road" diesel in some of the small units." They recommended "Road Diesel" with two ounces of Power Service and four ounces of Marvels Mystery Oil per five gallons. I have always followed this routine and have never had a problem. Some use "Off Road" or "Home" Diesel and also have had no problems. (# 2 Off-Road - Home and Highway Diesel are the same except for the dye)

Now to the problem you posted about, it sounds like you have either a dirty filter, air leak in fuel line, air vent in fuel cap obstructed or a collapsed fuel line restricting fuel delivery. Time to start inspecting the fuel delivery system.

I had the same problem with my BX25 after I got it.

Some hilly parts it would just seem to lose power and bog down.

Then I found out I had a LOW gear.:turtle:

The vast majority of diesel is #2. #1 is usually only used in the winter so it won't gel up below 0. The mileage drops on any vehicle using #1 because there is less energy in fuel to start with. Definitely not your issue.

Wikipedia states - This phenomenon happens when a fuel reaches a low enough temperature whereby enough wax crystals have formed to prevent any movement in the oil. For #2 diesel this is usually around 17.5*F (−8.1*C).

#2 is fine and is what is normally used, except in winter. Did you change both filters? There is one in back and another under the hood near the engine.

Couple of questions, why did you clean the tank out? Did you have a fuel contamination issue? You may have stirred up debris that is plugging the new filter. I usually change the first filter and check the second filter.

I have run road #2 and heating oil in my BX22 for years without any problems at all. The heating oil guy I buy from told me that it comes from the same tank as off-road diesel. I have never used #1 and have never had a problem with gelling in the winter. Coldest operation (snowblowing) has been the low teens.

I would say that the type of fuel you use is not a problem, but perhaps the batch you got has some issues.

I am thinking the same thing as techman- but I also wonder if you ever used additives or not? Have you checked your tank for problems? if you recently added biocide, you will probably will need to go through a number of filters on your tractor till the crapped solids from biocides is cleared out.

*The red dye has no effect on the fuel so it wasn't the problem .
