Am I wrong or is a dk55 nothing more than a dk45 with a turbo? If so can one simply add the turbo manifold and turbo and be done? There may be other small details like exhaust plumbing and such. It would be nice to have the hp. Am I nuts?

Maybe a DK50 (which I'm not sure they make/market anymore). I think that at one time the 45 and 50 used the same engine, but the 50 was turbo.

I'm sure someone more familiar can set us straight. Thanks.

The specs on the kioti web site show the DK45 and DK55 with the same displacement; the DK50 has about 15cc more than these two. I don't know if there are any other significant differences between the 45 and 55 models (besides the second rear remote), though.

also remember that mounting one isnt going to be the issue. You will need to also be able to get the high pressure oil from the oil pump in the engineto it. You may beable to do with a adapter on the oil filter. If you are lucky they will have a capped off journal on the block

The older squarer body style DK50's were turbo'd 40's
The DK55 is a turbo'd DK45 engine.
You could buy most everything from Kioti if you wanted.
The turbo would be the most cost prohibitive from Kioti.
By studying the parts diagrams and shop manuals you could tell where to put oil ports etc.
Put a sandwich style oil cooler adapter on it and go.....Kioti used one.
All of the turbo'd Kioti engines run oil coolers.

Piston tops on turbo models are usually different than on non-turbo. You need to find this out. plust sometimes the compression ratio is less on turbo models, because the turbo is pressurizing the combustion chamber, hence total compression is more pressure than non-turbo.

BTI - thanks for the correction. That will teach me to give advice from what I thought I remembered!

I also give stockpicking advice for free!

-- crickets --

Yep, that's the usual response.

Thanks again.

Obatsea,

You may not be nutz but you may be bats-sey!:)
You could go to a lot of expense and render a usable tractor DOA after installing the turbo on an engine not designed specifically for the turbo.
Seems like much ado about nothing when it comes right down to it. By that I mean that a few more hp to what end?
You have something that does the job now- why chance rendering it into scrap?
Just MHO.

It's " Oh to be at sea" not "Oh bat sea" as in, I would rather be on the water than sitting here with my dual thirties working on animations.

As to whether the engines...turbo vs non turbo...are all that different other than the aspiration, I didn't think they were. Since the turbo isn't pushing a huge amount of boost, I don't think the internals are all that different. As someone said, the pistons maybe, but that's prolly it. Adding a turbo to an engine will not blow up the engine or tear the guts out of the transmission. It will add a significant amount of horsepower due to the engine breathing more air than it could on its own. Not building a pulling tractor.

People add superchargers to cars all the time and don't have any harmful effects from doing so.

Your diesel pump may have to be adjusted or replaced as the fuel air mix will now be running lean causing the engine to run hot. Check with a specialist first who knows diesel turbocharging.
