Can I Redrill My Water Well????

municpal water treatment uses HUGE sand pits to filter the iron. (think 15x15x15 (with 5' of sand at the bottom 10' of water at the top)

about every 6 months they backwash them... talk about nasty looking water.

my point... perhaps a sand filter might work (as well as the replaceable filters do)

I'm with Dave, well, except for messing with a new well.

The installed iron removal systems are not maintenance free. The fact that they worked for several months is indication that the technology is effective on your problem. First step, call the system installer/manufacturer to inquire about the loss of iron removal.

300 feet of line for a sure good water source is cheap. I would have done that before messing with the iron well. Maybe do that regardless for a secondary source so long as your father is willing to allow it.

My first system was Rainsoft. Don't get me started about this overpriced piece of junk. I had to replace parts constantly on this think I paid about $3,500 for it and it was always breaking. Then when the repair guy would fix it they would send me a bill for the parts. Well, I found out that these parts were ALL warranty parts 2 years later. What a mess that was.
My new system is from Budgetwater which works O.K. for a while but it is supposed to be maintenance free and the media ( Pyrolox ) cost a small dortune to replace. But, it is not supposed to be replaced. It works for a few months and then just gets overwhelmed I guess. In Budget Waters defense, they told me I might need additional equipment when I first talked to them. They said to try this first and if it does not do the job I would have to get the retention tank. They are good people and not a the rip off scammers that Rainsoft was.

Running a line to my Dads well, is not an option due to the geography. I live on one side of the hill, his cabin is on the other and the hill is nothing but rocks.

I think you need to go with something with replacable filters. Even if you buy a lot of them, they would still be cheaper than buying new systems all the time.
