Can I torque loader bolts with impact wrench?

Ssssort of. 'Heavy' thread lubes are very much a YMMV thing vs 'lightly oiled'/torquing to spec, since not all thread lubes are the same. Bolt tension will be higher if a bolt turns way easier with an EP (extreme pressure) lube on threads, but usually no harm going to full torque.

Loader bolts are expected to get seriously yanked on in use so they won't snap easily if not substantially over-tightened. You might just stick to the 'lightly oiled' to minimize corrosion if you imagine grease or A-S would allow them to work l too easily or attract grit.

I appreciate your advice but have trouble with abbreviations. I can't figure out what WMMV and A-S mean.

I finally got A-S to mean anti sieze. I'm still lost on WMMV.

YMMV.... Your Mileage May Vary... slang for: that might not work for you.

Thanks K0UA,
I thougnt it might be some kind of highly technical jargon. Maybe it was.

Oh, sorry. You'd think an old guy like me wouldn't use catchy modern sayings or acronyms. Your Mileage May Vary. (Anymore, mine always does... ) You can often take that to mean, "don't blame me if it doesn't work for you." It can also mean, "Not if you drive like my girlfriend." .....

Wow, you guys are quick, ain'tcha? :)

(yeah, I drive like grandma, too..)

Grind,
Now that I've got the abbreviations down, what you say makes loads of sense. I've been afraid for years I was going to break off head bolt because I applied heavy greese and it got tight then kept slowly turning tighter and tighter. I understand you to mean, I should use only light oil for such applications. Now the critical question, what weight is light oil?

I have an IR T-MAX impact gun and a set of torque limiters. I can set most large bolts and nuts, metric or standard, to specs.

Grind, the problem is mine. I'm pretty sure I'm afflicted with an abbreviation disability.

OK, it's more like light-ly oiled, and it might as well mean 'slightly wet'. Too much oil, or I suppose too heavy, may try to seal the threads & trap its excess or air in a 'blind' hole. You may have seen similar with gasket goo getting into a hole and a bolt stripping the top half of the hole by bottoming out before ever drawing up. It's still about the torque & not the tricks.

Now that I think about it, I have abbreviation disabilities aplenty: ADHD, BDD, OCD, SADD, BPD, and ED (that's not a guy ... 'guy stuff' when your day comes. ) :confused3:

Would 30 weight oil be about right?
I "hear" they've got something for some of those 'guy stuff' disabilities.
