All I have is a bernzomatic and propane or Map gas cylinders??

Doesn't look too bad to me. You will need to sand off all the rust on both pieces. You may need to grind back some on the cap. The flair on the other piece will help fit to the cap if you need to take much off.

Use a 120 volt MIG welder, and use .025 wire and C25 gas.

i don't see good weldable or brazeable material there. I think i'd go the pop rivit route. use soem of that strapping tape. or cut strips from roof tin.. etc.. drill locations. rivit and forget about it..
Thanks everybody
Okay, new muff looks kinda expensive and I have a rivet gun I have never used and have some roof tin, but what is strapping tape?

strapping tape is that metal tape with holes in it. if you have spare roof tin to cut up.. that will be fine.

I hate working on that sort of thing, but poor folks learn to make do. This looks like the cap off the end of the muffler. Wire brush it as clean as you can and put the parts back together as best you can. Take a small mig and small wire and just start spot welding around the break. Yea, you might blow thru a few times, but once you get everything spot welded, you can cap the spot welds with a little better bead. Takes a little time and patience, but I have done several mufflers and tail pipes using the spot and stitch method.

it's not like it is a hermetrically sealed compressor motor. if he can get 3 good spot welds on it I'd call it a success and run with it. what do you have to loose on a rusted out small engine muffler?

i only have a bernzomatic(that i don't know really know how to use, I use it mostly to crystallize the sugar on honey buns) with either map gas or propane, i'm not gonna load it on my trailer and take it to the welder. I found my rivet pliers/gun and was looking around for rivets/ tin thinking i was gonna need to drive 25 miles to TSC and back for rivets and I saw the roll of bailing wire that the old man used to use like duck tape to fix everything, i see at least 3 good anchor points on and around the muffler to wrap it and twist it tight
Can it stand the heat?
Also, I'm afraid this JD-F-620 could quit on me anyday as it is old and has issues just waiting to reveal themselves.

Baling wire fixed a lot of model T Fords. Might work on a JD too if you paint it green:D

bailing wire will take the heat better than that half dead muffler..

Find something to put over the cap to have the wires pull it twords the can. Like a short section of pipe or something. Have the wires cross over the end cap. Use the wire doubled, so you can use a nail to twist them untill tight.
