Can it take off or fly in the space shuttle?

Birds rely on gravity to poop.

Without the pull of gravity they would not be able to "evacuate" their digestive system.

That's why they don't take birds into space.

We have five cockatiels and they just push when they poop, it's not a gravity thing with them and sometimes they get it outside of the cage

It's been a while since I did any avian anatomy, but I believe the intestines function by peristalsis. There is no rectum to store the accumulated waste, no bladder for nitrogenous wastes from the kidneys. Both of these waste systems and the reproductive function are served by a common body opening, but I don't think it relies on gravity. Birds seem to be eliminating waste all the time because they don't store it in a structure like the rectum found in terrestrial animals since the extra weight would inhibit flying. I think the actual elimination is the result of peristalsis, and gravity takes over after it leaves the bird, often above the operator of a tractor, which is why some form of head cover, commonly a cap, is given away with a new tractor sale.

The bird would probably die in short order due to the head injuries from hitting the walls overhead structure.

Oh, I don't know. There's a male cardinal that has been beating his brains out against our patio door for the last three weeks and is still going strong. I've been tempted to put out a couple of Excedrin tablets for the poor guy. He's got to have the mother of all headaches by now.

I've almost become accustomed to the the regular "thump....thump.....thump..." and sort of miss it when he leaves to get a drink or something to eat.

O.K., O.K. I was wrong.:p

Birds need gravity to swallow.

I knew it was something to do with one end or the other of the digestive tract.

They can't go into space because they couldn't eat or drink.

Apparently they can poop anywhere.

Its true, Ive seen birds "SHOOT" poop. If a bird shot poop in the space shuttle, it would propel the bird into flight without even having to use its wings to fly. An "**** thruster". Ahhh, Hmmmm !! Forget I said that !

On a subject closer to home. I was watching MythBusters last night. The myth was "does a truckload of birds weigh less if the birds are flying than it does if they are sitting?"
The answer was surprising, at least for me.

I don't have access to cable tv so don't have a chance to watch "MythBusters". So, what answer did they come up with?
