Buying Advice Can L4600/LA764 handle round bales?

Thanks for the various inputs. All are appreciated. Big investment for me and do not need to make a mistake right at the starting gate. Just do not have any experience past my little broken compact and the DW loader.

I am 0 for 4 with the area Kubota dealers trying my argument for the L series with the hay need I described. One acutally (politely) indicated he would refuse to sell me one if that was my intention. Regardless, 3 said MX4700/MX5100 was the minimum...the 4th (politely!) suggested starting a bit higher (5640SUD).

I still believe I could "get by". But the cost difference is indeed minimal and it would really tick me off to give the wife my life insurance money early:laughing:.

Guess I will try Craiglist for my 5' implements!

As for weight estimate for round bales we get, you are correct it may be a bit high. We have had some as tight as a cotton ball...but most have been pretty good. With the drought in our area it was pretty slim pickings for horse quality hay this year. Just wanted to use a realistic value for the discussion. We certainly have not run across the 6 x 6 1800 lb. bales in our area. If the drought continues, they may be 6" x 6" and I can hand toss them in the back of the pickup.

Thanks again for the input...getting quotes including some new implements. Will see what happens over the next couple of weeks.

well 1 reason that you truely dont run into tight bales of any size is because the guy baling has the baler set to bale loose bales.that means there isnt all that much in the bales.i like bales so tight that you can bend the spears going in them.
