Hello browncountyoh,
Sorry, but my JD 180 has well over to 2000 hours (my aftermarket hour meter died at 2036 hours several years ago) and being almost 20 years old, still kicks @$$. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
My neighbor, who is a mechanic, who keeps his stuff meticuously maintained, and who bought a Monkey Wards tractor only six weeks before I got mine, is already on his third cheapie (next was a Sears, and now a Scotts). Not to mention, all the slurrs from him about the over-priced JD - even while I merrily cut his acres for him while waiting weeks for parts to come in. Usually just for seat (quiet) time. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
So, are the 200's and 300's better? Of course, you pay more, you get more. But, when I need parts, they are either in stock, or there the next day. Normal maintenance items, filters, bearings, belts, always in stock. (Darn, I did have to wait three days for a decal to come in once.)
Do I have gripes about JD? Yes, they put the ignition switch in a boneheaded position that lets it collect moisture and corrode inside. I'm on my 5th switch. Am I ready to buy another tractor? Just for the sake of "new" paint? No, this one works perfectly.
Do I get preferential service from my dealer? No. Even though I've known my dealer almost 40 years, I believe everyone gets fair treatment there.
Can of worms?
Not even. Just like everyone doesn't like Cadillacs /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif and Lincolns /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif is the very reason they make Chevrolets /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif and Fords. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif (And Kias, Hyundais, and for some Yugos. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif)
So, browncountyoh, enjoy your Kia, and I'll enjoy my Cadillac. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
BTW - Welcome to TBN! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif You'll love it here. It can be quite addictive.
Whatdaya think, enough roasting the new guy?
Anyway, buy the best you can afford, and try to be happy with your purchase, regardless of the razzing you'll get from those around you.
