if you still have it, I'll be coming through Tennessee in a month or so...
It is still here, you'll have to help get the double dog lock fence sections off it, though, they're too heavy for me by myself.

Its called a intermitant fillit weld,,,,and its due to like the man said, warpage,,plus cost,,,etc,,,,,its one of those engineering type decisions,,that most of us don't see how will work,,,but generally it does,,,you gotta figure tensile strength and all that,,I mean if you gotta 1/4 inch plate welded by fillit to the top of a 1/2 inch plate,,,you don't need a 1/2 inch fillit,,1/4 is enough,or,,more than enough,,it all depends on which way the stresses are in that part.
One thing about intermitant fillit welds,,,if one has got a crack,,and crack spreads,,that weld will fail,,but,if you got other welds holding the same piece to something, they are not affected,,,that being said,,most cracks start in beginning and in end of welds,,and with intermitant fillit welds,,you got a lot of starts and stops. thingy

Can anybody of you check what is gear ratio on bushog mowers for 1.6 and 1.8 meter (63" & 72") , please?
I'm considering to build one, but have some doubts.

Using my plasma cutter, a HyperTherm 1250, I can quickly and easily cut 1/2" steel quickly and leave an almost perfect edge.

YIKES!!! That HyperTherm 1250 is a BRUTE! I bought their 20 amp unit and returned it and got the 40 amp unit (I guess it is a mid sized PC?) Anyway I bought a refurb customer return electric start gas generator from Lowes ($400.) It is rated at 13.5 KW surge and will run my tombstone fairly well. It will also run the 240VAC PC. I have a portable 25-30 gal compressor and intend to try the PC and compressor on the genny as a portable rig. I expect to be able to go portable with the PC and since I do not have anywhere near your skills with OA (why I bought the plasma cutter) this will be a fantastic boon to my capabilities.

I expect the worst outcome to be that the genny won't run the PC turned way up at the same time as running the compressor. I would have to wait for the compressor to top off and then use the plasma. This is not confirmed, just a worry in the back of my mind. I do have a 6000Watt genny too but hoped to not have to load them both plus the plasma and compressor in addition to the tombstone and the little MIG to be able to be effective in the field. Maybe I should build a custom pallet/rack to hold everything and be able to load and unload to/from the truck or trailer using the tractor and pallet forks. If it isn't very easy to do it tends to not get done!

I have the carbon arc accessory for the Lincoln so I can do preheat for welding or heat something to bend it or whatever without OA. I do have a small set of bottles but typically OA isn't my first choice but they do get used.

As far as building a brush hog, I wouldn't. Rebuilding one... much more likely.
