I am thinking about trading up to a cab tractor similar to the JD5520 open station that I already have. The equal to mine is the 5083 JD and I have been looking at lightly used models. The M seems to have the more speeds, better tires and wheels and things like an upgraded seat, etc, There must be something I'm missing because that doesn't seem to be enough goodies to account for the $10,000 boost in price.

Can anyone help with some differences and/or advice? Thanks in advance.

I bought my M almost three years ago. I also initially had a hard time justifying the extra money for the M. It wasn't until I was able to compare and E and M sitting side by side that I noticed the difference; there's quite a bit. The M has more of a frame and is heavier, the 3pt is heavier duty, the M has more tranny options, the M controls are better situated and with the M you can order the outside remote fender 3pt switch.
I would suggest getting both tractors side by side to compare and then drive both tractors.
I think Deere has upgraded the E controls and cab since I purchased mine. Good luck with your search.
I love my M.

I haven't really been looking at that size but isn't the E vs M comparison somewhat similar to a 1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton pickup comparison? Last year I was getting info in the mail trying to put me bin to the seat of a 6D. The price was very attractive but when I did some looking the 6M was the least I would consider based on transmission offerings and frame beef let alone hydraulics. The new numbering is at first a bit confusing thinking like in the past the first number indicates the tractor size but now it is the combination of the first 2 with the last 2 being power. Fortunately JD has on their site a conversion chart so if we want to replace, say, our 7720, the thee equivalent is I believe in the 6R series.
