Why would you buy something if you didn't know what it was?

Not sure what the point of this question is. I'm trying to identify a piece here not asking my friend why he bought it as that is irrelevant.

What I do know is if you put it down and drive the tractor forward it jumps up and down violently to where it could damage your hydraulics I'm thinking

So there's something like three paddles that roll over as you drive?

The interesting part is the notch added to each paddle toward the right end.

What does the handle do??

After closer inspection, there's another notch added toward the other end. Also appears to be some small notches cut into the paddles toward the center, 3 maybe??

With hillbilly engineering, there's no telling what the intended purpose was.

The handle locks the mechanism from rotating forward but it will still rotate backward if you reverse

Thanks for the answer. Now if we can just figure out why????

I'll follow this thread closely anticipating the answer. :D

Some type of light duty grading or levelling blade that was built to trip if you backed up? But I don't know what the teeth are for on the edge of the blade?

If it was some hillbilly that built he must've been an engineer because in my opinion it looks more like something that was manufactured.

Stalk cutters work like that, but are usually much lighter. Brush cutters usually have a large cylinder in the center so they can be very heavy.

It may be a roll-over rear blade that was made for where there would be frequent changes for pulling or pushing, and no angle work. Three blades needed so it doesn't get stuck horizontally mid-roll.

I'm guess the stalk cutter.
I have an old one with five blades.
