I have a large cat 3 implement that I am cutting down to be able to fit through my gates and I am going to be left with an 8 foot section that I want to assemble as a smaller plow and sell for someone with a cat 2 tractor. I have the cat 2 3 point hitch dimensions as far as width between the pins and height to the top link but I am concerned about the height of the pins from the ground.

This plow is tall and I am worried that if I put the lower pins at the same height they were originally that a cat 2 tractor might not be able to lift high enough to get it off the ground. Can someone measure for me how high their lower pins are in the upmost position?

That measurement all depends on the tractor. For example, my L3650 would lift higher than my M7040.

Plus, most tractor's 3PH has adjustment holes for putting the pins in different positions to adjust the lift arms.

Here is a photo of a CAT 1 Ford 101 plow that was modified for CAT 2 if that is of any help. Wish I could help more.

Thanks.

I know there are variations in different brands I was just looking for a ballpark number. I don't have any smaller tractors around and have not had one in a while and don't remember exactly but I don't recall them going very high. The bottom pins on this currently are nearly 30" off the ground with the plow sitting on the surface.

I am not making this for a specific tractor I just want to throw it together and put it on Craigslist but I don't want the pins to be so high that the average tractor can't get it off the ground.

On average if you place the pins about 8 to 10 inches from the ground you should be fine.

That is not possible on this implement. I doubt it would work anyway as the implement easily runs 6" deep. If you set your pins 8" from the ground when the implement is sitting on the surface the 3 point arms are not going to go down to 2" from the ground so they would be preventing it from going to operating depth.

Can anyone just take a few seconds and next time they are by their tractor lift the 3pt all the way up and tell me how high the lower links are?

Just got off my M7040.

It is 28" at full pin height.

Edit: I think RPW may be thinking pin height for a disc rather than a plow.
