Backhoe Can the 4120 be moved from the backhoe seat?

I have a new 4120 JD ehydro with the 448 backhoe. The weather was nice recently so I had it out, trying to get my first experience in using a backhoe. I used it to reposition some tree trunks in a pile to be burned. It quickly became apparent that I would need to move the tractor a few feet forward or backward to get better results. I would like to do this from the backhoe seat, but I do not see how it can be done without climbing off the backhoe and getting back on the tractor seat. Am I missing something or is this the only way to safely accomplish this? Thanks for any input you can provide.

I move my tractor with the BH when digging trenches. But I can reach the FEL control from the BH seat. If I remember to put a stick on the seat. I can use it to push on the HST pedal to aid with moving. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks for your reply, Ron, and the link to the previous thread. I, too, can reach the FEL controls from the hoe seat. I had not thought of the stick remedy, and may give it a try as long as I am in "A" range (low) and on level ground.

That's the way I do it. I have a JD 4700 Hydro. I also walk with a cane sometimes, I always keep a cane hanging off the ROPS lights just for this purpose. I can reach the loader controls and the hydro controls with the cane, makes short movements easy /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
