Well, now that I've got some leads to follow-up on... let me ask you all this... With my TC35 (about 30 PTO HP), should I refrain from purchasing a HD cutter?

Unless you cut trees and stuff that would require a heavy duty cutter than I wouldn't get it. Buy it for what you are going to use it for.

<font color="green">...I wouldn't consider a true Heavy Duty unit unless you get up past 45 PTO hp... and that's on the low end of the totem pole... </font>

based on those statements, I will be cutting things up to and including about 2-3 inches... Sounds like I should be looking at medium duty...

Midwest makes a great medium duty cutter for under $1,000 depending upon what extras you need (slip clutch, chain guards). I bought my RC30 for just over $1,000, including slip clutch and front and rear chain guards. It is an excellent cutter and you can get it painted to match the color of your tractor. I have cut 2-3" hard stuff with ease and even some 4-6" pines.

Jonathan, THANKS! I was concerned about the cost of delivery vs. acquiring the cutter locally. Do you know if they have local dealers (I sent them an email the other day and am awaiting a response)?

You might consider the weight factor of the unit in addition to the power of your PTO......even with 200 pounds of extra weight on the front of my tractor it gets really light on the front end when going uphill......and realllllllllllly fun when I hit a snag for one reason or another when going uphill.......Dennis

Been there done that. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Those "true" HD cutters are heavy for a CUT.

There are several options. First, Kioti dealers (if you have one nearby) now sell Midwest, though you might pay a premium here and would have to put up with that ugly orange color (i'm in trouble now). Second, call Midwest and see if they have any dealers up in your neck of the woods. They don't always respond quickly to emails. Third, try Carver equipment. They ship unassembled, a lot cheaper than you would think possible. Carver Good luck. There are a coupke of Northern folks on tbynet who have bought Midwest. Do a search to see if you can find who and how.
