Can you have to much grease?

Kubota calls for greasing the loader at every 10 hours, so I do that or sometimes a few hours less, Yes just grease until the grease starts to come out, wipe up the old, with a rag, Be careful with the solvents, some will take the paint right off. Bug and tar remover wont hurt most paints, (Xylene) dont know about decals, might remove them. I mostly just remove grease with rags. progressing to cleaner ones when they get "loaded". I probably overgrease, because there is meter time that the loader is not in use, but It dont hurt anything.

I have tried Xylene. It will damage the paint and melt decals. Xylene is pretty mean stuff.

That's good to know. I actually always thought you could overgrease. I've heard of grease lock but that probably happens with other types of things. I work on ships and was taught a while back to never over grease things, however on tractors when the grease can come out I guess it makes sense on why you can't. Seems like if anything, your just flushing the old dirty grease with new clean grease......(hmmm, 'clean grease'? is that an oxymoron?)

There are different schools on this. Some say if you over grease you will blow out a seal. If you under grease you will fry a bearing. I have a tendency to over grease. A blown seal will do a lot less damage than a fried bearing.

At a guess an overly exuberant mechanic went at it with their favorite grease and saw a different color grease coming out - so decided to "flush" the previous grease brand out until their favorite grease's color came out.

There is some basis for not mixing grease "types", but I don't see the point of pumping it through until there is no trace of the old/other color coming out.

I wouldn't go that far. Its hard to judge the perfect amount of grease.

I don't recall ever seeing a real grease seal on a bushing that has a grease zerk on it. Roller and ball bearings yes, but you don't find them on loader pins and bushings.
A few years ago I watched one of the Redi-Mix drivers lube his truck. He used a small putty knife and rag to remove excess grease. The idea has worked for me too.

If you study the movement of the different loader linkages you will find that some move quickly(bucket pins) thru 180 deg (or more), others only move a few degrees (lift cylinder ends). I always tend to grease the loader hinge points and bucket pins more often than those on the lift cylinder rods. One end of my curl cylinders moves on the pin a lot more than the other so it gets greased more often.
Any time I have a pin out for any reason I take my small angle grinder and grind "grease grooves" along the pin (especially on the hoe). The older (4300) JD stuff has some zerks that are awkward to get at in warm weather. In winter they are worse....

As far as cleaning, wd-40 works the best. Just wipe majority off with dry rag and clean the smears off with WD-40. Diesel even works good as a degreaser but I wash with soap afterwards.

I'm presently attempting to restore my 2002 B21 to showroom condition. After I pounded the dents out of the hood, took it to down to bare metal and repainted it, I moved on to cleaning and lubricating the FEL. That took about 5 hours. At times it was helpful to lift the FEL about 6 feet to get at some areas. I ran through 5 old Tee shirts getting rid of the accumulated grease. The new grease is red which helps differentiate between old and new.

I used Windex to clean the surfaces. Works like a charm.
