Can you plow criss cross?

How much ground are you working and what are your expected results?

When I first purchased my property, found a tractor and got it running I was lucky enough to come across an old 2 bottom trip plow that I changed into a 3pt plow(of sorts it only used the lifting arm from the 3pt and a mount down low in order to change the angle of the plow on the fly kinda a goofy design but I had never run anything off 3pt before that and didn't have a good design in mind but it worked as planned) I then took a snow blade and moved all the dirt I turned over off the ground I was working and plowed it again to loosen up more soil. It made for a nice soil after I moved it all back in but took a lot of time. Yes, a box blade would have worked better but my
endeavor only cost me gasoline and gained valuable tractor time in the process.

Not a good idea on grassland as the mess will be terrible but it used to be common to plough potato land twice if wet !

On trashy, hard field I use chisel plow one way then come back at about 30 degree angle on the next pass. First pass seems to do little. Next pass it is clear that clods and grassy chunks are getting well torn up. A third pass at yet a different 30 percent angle completes round one....wait for time and rain to kill grass and melt chunks....then use disk plow one or two times to further bust up chunks.

I have Houston black clay....your soil and mechanical soil behaviour may vary.....experimenting is good:)
