Anyone have any first hand experience purchasing prescription drugs from Canada over the Internet? I understand you have to be careful as some of the drugs are foreign made and not up to FDA standards etc. Anyone have a good source or any thoughts?

Thanks!

This is the one we use, the pills are labeled where they are manufactured and the name of the manufacturer. The item to note is that this is for one prescription only and it is for our pomeranian. It is a people medication not the dog medication and it is about a third of the price it is here in the US.

"not up to FDA standards "

This seems to be what you always hear as the government's excuse of not letting U.S. import drugs from Canada. Has anyone heard of Canadians dieing because of a bad prescription?

I agree. If I were a Canadian that statement by our government would really have set me off! I thought they were our "friends to the North?" And having been there on several occasions I find it a wonderful country full of gracious folks disinclined to fall for snake oil.

There is a lot of contraversie surrounding this issue with major attempts at ending the cross border perscription drug trade.

I beleive some Pharmacies providing this service have been denied products from their US drug suppliers.

Bottom line is $$$$$. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Drug companies want to make more $$$$$. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
They can't do it in Canada so they make us pay more. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Don't believe all the horse-crap about the $$$$ is needed for research.
The research needs to be done on the drug companies themselves. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

How much profit is too much profit and who or what will determine this?

I haven't, but why would this make the national news, or any news service, in the US?

I wouldn't worry as much about buying from Canada as I would about buying from the Internet. The World Health Organization has estimated that 5-8% of the world's pharmaceuticals are counterfeit, and there have been recent articles in the newspaper regarding Organized Crime moving into this area.

See On Canadian Prescription Drug Importation

A quick Google on "counterfeit prescription medication" will give ~32000 hits, and you can take your choice of presenter and viewpoint.

TonyC,

I'll repeat what has been said on Public Radios People's Pharmacy.

The hosts and their guests opinion on this is that drugs in
Canada are likely safer then in the US. The drugs are the same
but in Canada there are less people involved in moving the
drugs from the manufactuer to the consumer. Their
two cents is that the amount/type of drug can be mixed up
the more it is handled. The drugs are handled more in the US
than in Canada.

I have no idea if this is true or not. Don't have a clue. Take
it for what it is worth. I don't think I would buy from some
countries but I think I would buy from Canada.

I was talking with a friend of mine who owns a backery. We
got to talking about health care and such. The costs have
risen to a point that she is having to cut/move the health
benefits since she can't afford the bill anymore. She made
a brilliant point about Free Trade. If its Free Trade to send our
jobs overseas why is it not Free Trade to buy our drugs
overseas if we so desire..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
