Canada Prescriptions

Well, living in Canada, I can say our drugs are safe. Can't always say that about the doctors administering them!

Most health care plans will not cover anything but generic drugs.

I feel that I do an important job that eventually will do good for society at large.
I think you do, too.

I must admit I get tired of the drug companies being painted as the bad goes.

I don't know what a 'goes' is /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif , but I agree with you.

I no longer vote for any politician that attempts to demonize the drug industry.
Neither do I...and I don't even work for the drug industry.

Well thanks for listening.
Thanks for sharing.

Boy you said a mouthful and did it very well I may add. It was very informative. Thanks for taking the time.
P.S. My wife also works for a drug company.

Because the Canadian government 'forces' them to sell at this price. Drug companies only have exclusive marketing rights, i.e., no generic version, for a certain number of years. If they have to average $7.00/pill during that time, for every pill they sell in Canada at $4.00, they have to sell one somewere else for $10.

So what you're saying is 'drug company A' wants to sell 'drug X' so bad, it is willing to sell at/near/below cost in Canada? Uh, I don't think so /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So why would a drug company sell "name brand x" in the US for 10 bucks a pop and the same thing in Canada for 4?

They have to pay for all of the drug commercials on TV?

I would say there are two reasons.

1) Canada controls how much these companies can gouge.
2) The drug companies are making good money in Canada or they wouldn't be selling there.

In 2002, Pfizer had an annual profit of 9.1 Billion. Merck didn't fair so well. They only made 7.1 Billion. Not bad, eh /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I go back to my original question, 'How much profit is too much profit and who or what will determine this? '

I kind of figured you would and I don't have the answer. It wouldn't be so bad if drugs had a universal price but this one price for here, one price for there and stick it in them over there is BS but I guess you think that's OK.

Where did I say this? I didn't. Until someone figures out a better way, it will have to do.

You didn't! I forgot the ? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif And I will agree, it'll have to do until who knows when. Maybe when the insurance companies quit paying, the employer can't afford health care for their employees or the employees can't afford to pay what their employer can't.
