I have been very lucky and never had a bad encounter with a police officer. At 70, I have had a few, but I must have lucked out and got the "good ones".

If an officer beat the crap out of me, I would get an attorney. I would never give a officer a reason to become aggressive as I would follow his commands. I have had two encounters when I was carrying. Kept my hands on the steering wheel and informed the officer I had a pistol. Maybe they did not beat me up because I had a gun???? Being a white guy might have helped too. Surely, treating them with respect would never be a factor in my "luck"

I used to shoot with a couple of LEO's and cannot imagine them doing something stupid. I suspect there is more to the story.

If these LEO's went over the line, the kid should sue. We need to cull the bad apples. But I will not lump all of them into the basket of deplorables.

Another good post.

I mainly support the police, but much of the time they seem to make it difficult to do so.
I blame the self isolation of the police and there arrogance and power tripping equally for many of todays issues.
The police do not have a serve and protect attitude anymore.
They seem to have an attitude of over powering everyone they encounter, regardless of the reason for the encounter.
They have barricaded them selves behind walls and do not wish to interact with the people they were hired by to serve and protect.
They do not seem to want to engage in even friendly conversation when in public.

To get back to the issue in this thread,
they were very lucky that that kid had put the tractor in neutral or park before they started their aggressive bullying,
if that tractor had been in gear and lurched forward it could have easily injured or killed one or more of them.
They also vandalized the tractor so that it could not be used for farming and had to go to the shop after they finally released it.
These so called safety checkpoints are a prime example of police over reach, stopping everyone and looking to find an issue to ticket and fine for,
they are strictly revenue enhancement and certainly not crime prevention.

I see no alternative to LEOs.

If someone has one I'd enjoy reading it?

In every altercation someone is in charge. Even if it's just you and I. To get thru the situation I always vote for the LEO to be in charge. Always.

Like shooterdon, I've also have never ran into a bad cop. They treat me with respect and I treat them with respect...

IF, you've ever watched Live PD, you can easily see why that most all of the folks that have cop problems, have cop problems!! That show wasn't scripted, it was live!

You will also notice that many are frequent fliers!! Same problem people, week after week...

Both the article and a few of the comments are quiet disgusting. I don't make assumptions about what you're like in your job. I only know what it's like to work at my place. There's good and bad to all work places and I know it varies from place to place. Yes, bad cultures need to be fixed, but I don't make assumptions about the culture at locations I haven't experienced.

Once you judge and label people and groups you are often unable to affect a positive change with them.

I rewatched the part of the video in which the farmer told his story. He volunteered several instances in the story where he was wrong and in violation of those in charge of the situation. I'm confident he also sugar coated his responses to the LEOs in charge.

In the beginning he said he came upon stopped vehicles and simply pulled onto the shoulder and kept going.

He then said he realized it was a controlled traffic stop by LEO. He kept going.

In one segment he said he didn't stop when told to because it was steep right there and wasn't safe. But if was safe enough to drive past the vehicles and the LEOs.

He admitted he only stopped because LEOs were chasing him on foot and beating on the tractor fenders and doors and yelling to stop.

He admitted they told him to exit the tractor several times and he refused saying he needed to let the tractor cool down first.

He admitted he refused to take a breath test.

He admitted he only exited the tractor when they dragged him out.

Again I say, someone has to be in charge. Who should it have been in this situation? The Farmer? Or the LEOs?

He didn't stop were it was unsafe, I can fully understand that I have driven thru spots that I could drive thru working but I wouldn't stop for ground conditions.
He admitted that he didn't jump to do thier bidding as he was cooling the tractor down,
he also said that he couldn't hear them clearly over the tractor and that the masks they wore were muffling their voices.
He refused a breath test, good for him, public safety my a**, public harassment more like it.
No one has to be in charge, that was an incident were they were power tripping pure and simple.
Law enforcement does not have to be abusive as it seems to have become.

I have. More than one. I worked with both of them. I knew right off (instinct) that they were bad as soon as I met them. Had personal conflicts with both, yet none with the other 15 or 20 officers I worked with. As time progressed, the incidents increased and became more common. One nearly got in a physical fight with FFs and EMTs on the scene of an accident involving a trooper. Then there was an incident involving gunfire when not appropriate. Instead of being fired, he changed agencies. Then that one transferred him to another Post.

The other one nearly caused the death of a handcuffed prisoner in his custody through his own negligence and failure to follow procedure. Later he was involved in assaulting another prisoner. Facing disciplinary action, he resigned. Got hired by another agency. Sometime later he killed a suspect after a chase into another jurisdiction. Got fired instead of being jailed. Last I knew he had been hired yet again by another agency, at least his 6th that I know of.

These are not tales told to me off some website. These are people I knew personally.
