I took my Lab to the vet today for her annual physical and vaccinations.

My vet is now requiring that dogs coming in for boarding or grooming be vaccinated for the influenza. Although my dog doesn't have a a "lifestyle" that would make her susceptible (https://www.avma.org/KB/Resources/Reference/Pages/Canine-Influenza-Backgrounder.aspx ), I had her vaccinated on the off chance that an emergency may require her to be boarded.

Are you having your dogs vaccinated for the flu?

Our veterinarian now requires that as well for dogs. We have cats and a tortoise, so didn't affect us. We're about 100 miles east of Chicago and apparently there was quite the outbreak there this year. We get lots of folks traveling from Illinois to this area (particularly the lakes just north of us in Michigan) for the summer and our vet has lots of Illinois and northwestern Indiana customers. It made sense. If we had dogs, we'd have gotten them vaccinated.

I don't know whether the vets here require such, but that's just one of the things our little mutt gets vaccinated for every year. And since our vet does also board dogs and cats, I imagine they require it for that.

Never heard of it but a couple weeks back I think my 2 dogs had the flu. Symptoms similar to the human flu. I think they got it from the 4 new dogs next door seeing they have no interaction with other animals.
