Found these beside my house where I've planted grass, weren't there at noon but were at 3 pm.

From that picture I'd say you're right. They abruptly end, weird, maybe an eagle swooped down and got him! :D The tracks are small, I'd say 1.5" +-.

I would lean towards a fox, a domestic dog will not place its rear foot directly on top of the front paw track,if it does it cannot do it time and time again, coyotes,fox,and wolves will always place their rear foot directly and almost centered on the front track during walking or a fast gait/trot . A fox will typically have a tapered track and its claws will be apparent in soft soil.

Interesting tidbit:
Did you know that a grey fox is the only canine in north america that can climb trees!

There are several foxes in the woods across the road, and who knows in back of my property? I looked at some fox track pics and the gait and size oes look close. But it could be Cujunior!:D
